unable to connect to remote webserver with custom ports
We use putty to SSH to a customer's Linux Server and then connect to the webserver using http://localhost:9253/. It works in windows 2003, windows XP, but not that we've upgraded to windows 7 64bit it doesn't work. I get the following error in
my security log.

What security setting is blocking it?
I've tried to add it to trusted sites, but that didn't help.

Hi,
Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum.
Before going further, may I know the following details:
1.
What is the host of your webserver?
2.
Have you tried to disable the firewall in Windows 7 to test?
3.
Can you connect to webserver by http://IP address:9253?
Meanwhile, please provide the entire security log for us.
I am looking forward to your reply.

More information.
The customers is running apache and authenticating using winbind to their Domain. We are not on that domain, but prior to Windows 7 we were able to put in domainname\username and password and connect. We still can on our windows 2003
Terminal Server, but we are unable to on any of our windows 7 computers.
We are connecting to their SSH port and bringing port 80 back as port 9253. So on our end we put to our sever that is doing the portforwarding and put in
http://mars:9253/. Like I said this works fine in pre-windows 7 computers.
Yes. I turned off the firewall and tried it, but I still was unable to connect.
Hey, I think you are onto something. I just tried it by IP Address (http://IPADDRESS:9253/) and it worked. I'm confused? My computer can resolves the IPADDRESS by name so why doesn't it work with the
name?

Hi,
Thanks for update.
I would like to ask whether you get any error message when the connection failed. If so, please provide it for us, it is important for our analysis.
Meanwhile, if the server is accessible using the IP address, your next step is to check the DNS. As you said, all of Windows 7 computers cannot connect to that SSH
port. In this situation, I suggest you take the following steps to troubleshoot:
1.
Update network driver for Windows 7 to latest.
2.
If there is DNS server in your network environment, you could check the DNS Server and restart services or reboot if necessary.
3.
Release and renew your DHCP Server IP address. Using the following commands:
IPCONFIG /RELEASE
IPCONFIG /RENEW
4.
If you would want your network adaptor to obtain DNS Server IP addresses from the DHCP Server. You need choose“Obtain
DNS server address automatically” in order to get a new DNS server IP.
Hope it helps.
