two operating systems
I purchased an external hard drive - 250GB, same as internal, tried to install Windows XP to the external, and ended up installing to C drive, but in another location in order to not lose all data. Problem is all programs need to be reinstalled to new Windows XP, can't open new one either, it says it has to be activated.1 person needs an answerI do too

You cannot install Windows XP on an external hard drive. Some people have reported success if the external is an eSATA one, but if it is a regular USB-connected external you cannot do it.
