Do you mean that when you use msconfig to change an item, you see a message like this:An Access Denied error was returned while attempting to change a service. You may needto log on using an Administrator account to make the specified changes. If that is the message you see, do you now or have you ever had an HP printer installed?Do, or do not. There is no try.I decided to save up points for a new puppy instead of a pony!

Oops - I forgot to ask another question...When you make the change in msconfig and XP complains about it, does the change you made still "stick"?Check your XP Services and see if you have a Service called HPZ12.To do that, Click Start, Run and in the box enter:services.mscClick OK to launch the Services applet.See if you have the HPZ12 Service and if you do, or if you don't, do you have any HP... oriented Services? What is the Service that is giving you a hard time in msconfig or is it just any msconfig startup item that gives you a hard time?If you have the HPZ12 Service or any HP oriented Services, what is in the Status and Startup Type columns for each?If you are not using any HP printer or not using them anymore, do you have any leftover HP printer stuff in Add/Remove Programs that you can uninstall? When I see this issue, the msconfig changes "stick", but the error is annoying. HP talks about it in their forums and there are some workarounds and things that might do the trick for you - but let's see what you've got first. HPs favorite suggestion when they don't know how to fix something is sometimes along the lines of... it is an XP problem and you need to reinstall XP. Of course that is ridiculous. Since the msconfig changes "stick" some people just live with it since they don't use msconfig very often, or you can download a free and better startup manager.Remember that msconfig is not a startup manager, it is a troubleshooting tool. If you want a startup manager, there are many better free ones.Do, or do not. There is no try.I decided to save up points for a new puppy instead of a pony!
