trying to boot off another OS of USB Drive with bitlocker
Ok i have a windows 7 ultimate x64 on my labtop with bitlocker enabled on the only drive (c:). Today i wanted to do some consisting checking on an external drive so i created a bootable spinrite usb stick. I go to boot from the usb drive and bitlocker starts giving me problems saying that the bootable setup of the machine has changed so i need the recovery key. I thought no problem i'll just go back into windows and save a recovery key to the usb drive i'm using to boot. I tried that and it will boot but instead of boot DOS w/ spinrite it boots up windows. I tried to create a key on another usb drive and that didn't work either. So my question is two fold: 1) How do i get around this current issue and boot DOS w/ spinrite off the usb drive. 2) In the future if i would somehow have problems with my drive how could i boot something up like DOS w/ spinrite if my system drive had an issue (the one encrypted with bitlocker)? thanks, Choclabs

Hi Choclabs, I think this issue is better to be answered by GRC Support. I found some articles from GRC and hope them help: Windows 7 Security Frequently Asked Questions Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft.
