More often than not when a device isn't working it is because the driver has become corrupted. Re-installing a fresh copy should help http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isnt-working-properly?SignedIn=1

Hi,

After reading the issue which you raised, I infer the most possible reasons for the issue is driver. I suggest you follow the steps below to check it.

Firstly, plug a USB mouse in case that you cannot use your touchpad to operate at all. Then open Control Panel > Troubleshooting > Configure a device.

If the troubleshooter doesnt work for the issue, you can update your drivers in Device Manager.

Just right click This PC > Manage > Device Manager, then right click the mouse driver and choose Update driver software. Also, you can download the latest driver version for your system version from the official manufacturers website and install it.

For another possible reason, the wrong touchpad settings will also lead the issue. Open Control Panel > Mouse > Touchpad > buttons. You can attempt to adjust your settings in this tab. If you don't see a Touchpad tab, and the touchpad settings aren't on the Buttons tab, refer to the documentation that came with the PC or visit the manufacturers website to learn how to access the settings for the touchpad.

All the steps above could be performed by keyboard. Due to I am not certain whether the USB mouse will work, you can use keyboard to operate if the USB mouse doesnt work. If you have difficulty in using keyboard, you can come back to tell us which step you have problem and we will help you later.

Wish you will troubleshoot the issue smoothly.

Best Regards

Simon
