toast notifications appear for too long on start screen

I have edited the registry to limit notifications to 2 seconds, however, on the start screen, they sit there for as much as 20 seconds it seems.  How can I reduce this time?

Hi bbran,

Will all the notifications share the same issue or just the specific one?
Usually we can configure the notification timeout from the "Easy of Access" and the least timeout will be five seconds.We also can configure it from the following registry keys.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\MessageDuration
Here is a link for reference:

If it is related to the Lync settings ,we also can figure the following registry keys
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Communicator]
IMToastTimeout=dword:0000000a
IMToastNoAutoAcceptTimeout=dword:0000000f

Yes, I had already changed the registry key you mentioned, as I indicated above.  That change was for your first suggestion as I do not have Lync.   It did not make a difference.  The only notifications I seem to get are from Outlook 2013, but there may be others I do not recall.

I just looked at your first link and notice that Windows will ignore a value of less than 5 seconds when editing the registry key.  That's a bad approach.  Still, with the value set to 5 seconds through "Ease of Access," the notifications are staying for 20 seconds.  Could that be because it is 5 seconds for each notification when there are 3-4 displayed at the same time?

Hi bbran,

Have you tried to restart the machine after changing the registry keys to make it take effect ?
"Could that be because it is 5 seconds for each notification when there are 3-4 displayed at the same time?"
Will the notifications change ?Did the issue only occur with the Outlook`s notifications?
As far as I know ,the two methods are used to control the timeout of the notifications.There is a possibility that the present user account profile has corrupted.
We can try to create a new account and login with it to have a test.
If the issue is gone,we can refer to the following link to fix the corrupted user profile.
