task scheduler - running task after scheduled start is missed
Hi all, In task scheduler there is a checkbox called "run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed". The help for it says this: "If this setting is checked, the Task Scheduler service will start the task if the task was scheduled to run at a certain time, but for some reason (for example, the computer was turned off or the Task Scheduler service was busy) the task was not activated. The Task Scheduler service will not start the task immediately after the task was missed. By default the service waits ten minutes before starting the missed task." I'm not sure if this means: (a) The default behaviour (box not checked) is to wait 10 minutes but if you check the box it will run as soon as the PC powers on (b) if you check this box it will run the task 10 minutes after boot but if you clear the box it will not attempt to run the task until the next scheduled time my inclination is that (b) is what it's trying to say, but from my experimentation so far, it appears that if I clear the checkbox it doesn't try to run the task at all, but if you check the checkbox it tries to run it as soon as the PC comes on. I haven't been able to get the "wait 10 minutes and then run it" behaviour which I'm looking for. can anyone shed any light on this

If it is not checked, the task will wait for 10 minutes and then start. If it is checked, it will run as soon as possible. Which task did you test and you find that it does not start after more than 10 minutes?Arthur Xie - MSFT

the task was a syncback SE replication, but I will do some tests with a dummy task to elimitate that I also tried using the checkbox to only run the task when the computer is idle, but this did not work either. I left the machine for 1/2 hour over lunch and the task did not run

Do the other Windows tasks, such as Windows Defender or Windows Backup work as expected? If so, I just suspect that there are software compatibility issues on SyncbackSE replication.Arthur Xie - MSFT

If you enable the task history tab it will have information regarding why a task does not start.
