tablets with 32gb systempartition...

How can I use a Windows tablet with 32GB systempartition like the Dell Venue 8 Pro?

Before  X-Mas I bought a Win 8.1 tablet with 32GB systempartition...

I got a 25 Euro voucher but cannot use it, because my systempartition is nearly  full...

Desktop application are already installed on the SD-Card. How can I move the WindowsApps Folder to the SD-Card as Default?

Also the AppData Folder from my  Profile would be nice to have on the SD-Card.

Any ideas? Otherwise I have to try to get a 64GB tablet from the US. In Germany I haven't seen 64GB tablets with 8" Display...

Hi,

For the issue, I don't recommend that you move AppData Folder to your SD-Card.

Because it can cause adverse effects on the systems stability.

Meanwhile, if you want to install windows store app to your SD-Card, we can use Windows PowerShell 3.0 to change the default system installation location of Windows Store apps in Windows 8.1.

Please refer to the following link:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/showcase/details.aspx?uuid=f78a1e57-0acb-48cc-918d-f10ff46915ef

Note: Move Old Apps to the New Location:

This will only affect apps you install in the future. Previously installed apps will remain at the old location. To move these apps to the new location, you can uninstall them from your computer and then reinstall them from the Windows Store.

Hi,

Thanks for the link to the script. It sounds great but I am  not able to run it.

I started Powershell with admin rights.

Did the import-module and wanted to Change the path with Set-OSCAPPPackageRoot.

I get the following error (in German...):

"TakeOwnerShip : Ausnahme beim Aufrufen von "OpenSubKey" mit 3 Argument(en):  "Der angeforderte Registrierungszugriff
ist unzulssig."
In C:\script\ChangeDefaultInstallation.psm1:61 Zeichen:4

I tried to take the ownership in regedit but it doesn't work even as Administrator...

Any hints?

Thanks!

I have no idea why this issue isn't more commonly referred. I have exactly the same problem! Any ideas?

I also dont get why Microsoft did not offer us a Chance to change this directory ourselves. I do not wish to install any other stuff  than the system itself on my system partition.

I think Microsoft uses their own OSes only on high end tablets/PCs and so they never face the problem...

They also do  not realize that their OS  is larger than any other OS... We can be lucky that they do not let sell 16GB tablets...

The move of the WindowsApps Folder didn't work and I tried it 2 times. After my last try  the old apps worked but it wasn't possible to install new apps. You can find tons of posting with the error code  I got. No solution. I tried also to find a solution with process explorer...

Finally I did these things to make my tablet usable :)

1. powercfg /H:off - gave me more than 1 GB diskspace!

2. a - formated my SD-card  with NTFS to be able to move Skydrive to it.

b - booted into cmd with Windows 8.1 USB Stick  (See Mr_bigworlds post above)

c -  copied the usersfolder to SD-card and made symbolic link (See Mr_bigworlds post above)

3. deinstalled the preinstalled office from C:

4. installed "wise disk cleaner" on D: - gave me  more  than 1 GB diskspace also.

5. All normal programs will  be  installed on D:!

I hope Microsoft will fix the problem with tablets and make it  possible to make the SD-card the default install device.

In times of the cloud even cameras send their pictures to the cloud and nobody takes out SD-cards...

Additional 4.7 GB space is in the recovery partition... I moved it to a 8 GB USB Stick with the command "recoverydrive". Right after the creation of the stick you can choose to delete the recovery partition.
