system restore corruption...
i'm running my notebook PC in a dual boot configuration. and it seems like the Windows 7 dual boot messed up system restore under Vista. any help here.now it shows three partitions instead of two.Vista (C) [System partition]Win7 (D)Unknown (C)and if i uncheck the unknown partition it asks if i want to turn off system restore....as of this point i ever check if this is showing up in Windows 7.and just so you know i renamed the partitions to match the OS names...any ideas of how to fix this?or if system restore still works?or if it is just corrupt in just one OS or both?at least i did a full backup of vista before installing Windows 7...

so how do i send my request? can i just post the detailed error below. I'm running a dual boot of Windows 7 and Windows vista. Windows Vista is the mail operating system. As i said before Windows 7 messes up system restore for Vista at least for me. when i open system restore to create a restore point. there are three availible disks. just so you know, i renamed the partitions so that that their names match the operating systems that are installed on them.WinVista (C:\) (System)Win7 (D:\)(C:\) (Missing)the weird thing is that the "missing" partition mirrors the "system" partition for when i am creating restore points for Windows Vista, but if i try to disable system restore on (C:\) on the "Missing" partition it asks me if i want to disable sytem restore alltogether. yet, i can uncheck it for the "system" partition and system restore will still be enabled. at this point i am not sure why Windows 7 is giving Windows vista this issue on my PC in a dual boot configuration on my PC. oddly system restore appears fine in Windows 7. yet oddly when i switch between operating systems it seems that the retore points for both systems get erased.

Write a post about what you know and make a reply to the thread. I'm not sure how you can do an effective job without feedback collection tools, but I can tell you I asked your question in the backup chat recently, and the reply I got was a request for more details on what I was doing when that happened.Rating posts helps other users Mark L. those are the basic details of the issue. not of what caused the issue.i can tell you what i think caused the issue. if you want i can give you my system details as well. i will answer whatever question you have about this issue. for if you have any.i think that one reason why this issue was created was that because i did not use the build in disk partitioner to split the my disk partition on my hard drive and what not. one reason was that the vista one kept failing. i have a 250GB hard drive and the vista partitioner only managed to break off a 5GB segment, than it crashed. each time i retried it kept crashing. finally i gave up and just used the vista disk partitioner to merge the partitions back to normal which takes a heck of a lot longer than it takes to slit...since the vista disk partition manager was failing, i decided to use a dos based one to split off a 60GB sized partition to use for Windows 7. the dos based tool also had a Windows based tool, but it just went into dos mode when it requires a restart to modify partitions.oddly i had no issues modifying the disk partitions using that utility. then when i first installed Windows 7 no issues were detected except for the fact that it was running the vista splash screen, like it was not supposed to. i knew there was something wrong with the splash screen because i had Widows 7 running in a virtual machine as well on Windows Vista. Then when i went back to vista updated a few things and created custom restore point, thats when i noticed the issue.is there anyway i can send you a screen shot of the system restore issue thing through this forum? i noticed other people doing that, but i am not sure how to do so myself. i have never posted pictureinthis forum before.
