sync issues windows 7 to server 2003
I have 2 Windows 7 laptops now in my domain. Neither were able to sync offline files and folders. I performed the reg hack to remove the oppportunistic locks from Article ID: 296264, and one of them started working. The other one continues to get “The Process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process” errors for every file. As far as I can tell, the users are set up with the same access rights to the network share (full control at the root) and both are admins of their machines. What could the missing piece be for the one that is failing. I have disabled and re-enabled offine folders. I have made the folder available offline then not available and back. The files reside on a server 2003 box. Help would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest that on the 2003 server you add the following entries. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MRXSmb\Parameters\ OplocksDisabled REG_DWORD 0 Default: 0 (not disabled) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters EnableOplocks REG_DWORD 1 Default: 1 (enabled) If it does not help, you access the following KB. How to Optimize Windows NT Server Using the Registry Please change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters\size to “1”. Also please change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache to “1”. Then check the result again.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I have a virtually identical situation. Please shout back if the SBS hack mentioned by Arthur Xie actually worked for you. So far, this is the best recommendation I've found. The regedit hacks on the client machines haven't worked (as reported by others). John
