System Information: Computer: Sony Vaio Laptop - VPCEH1AFX Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B940 @ 2.00GHz 2.00GHz Installed memory (RAM): 4.00GB Total Harddisk Space: 455GB System Type: 64-bit OS I've checked out some other similar issues folks have been having with svchost.exe and, while some of them are close, none of them appear to be precisely what I'm facing. Additionally, many of the "fixes" I've seen listed are for problems that are clearly not my own as they have failed to work. What I'm looking at is one of the svchost.exe processes with the PID of 588 that is responsible for the following services: AudioEndpointBuilder, hidserv,Netman, SysMain, TabletInputService, TrkWks, UxSms, Wlansvc, wudfsvc The above services have been typed exactly as they appear, including capitalization. Okay, now on to the problem. When I boot my computer, if I promptly Ctrl+Alt+Del and enter the Task Manager, then go to the Performance tab and click open my Resource Monitor, I can clearly see that this particular svchost.exe is sitting at around the following: 11,000+ Commit (KB), 12,000+ Working Set (KB), 6,000+ Shareable (KB), and 6,500+ Private (KB). Now, after a minute or so, or after I open ANY application, all those numbers spike sharply. Usually, if I suspend the process right after it spikes, it's sitting at right around the following: 127,000+ Commit (KB), 136,000+ Working Set (KB), 11,000+ Shareable (KB), and 124,000+ Private (KB). It will then steadily continue to climb into some incredibly high numbers, al the while converting my listed Free memory (which starts at around 2900MB when I first boot up) to Standby memory until it's at 0 Free. Then, at that point, my computer starts having what I call "pop freezes" where it'll freeze for just a moment, then run normally again. It'll run like that for about a minute before it becomes nigh impossible to do ANYTHING, even Ctrl+Alt+Del to the Task Manager or successfully shutdown my computer. I had this issue once before, but it was fixed after running a deep system scan with BitDefender 2012. I didn't even have to use any of my anti-malware stuff. However, this time the virus scan is doing little aside from deleting some tracking cookies, and Malwarebytes isn't doing anything in the way of fixing it, either. Before anyone goes off and says these kinds of numbers are normal, I assure you they aren't. I've seen that comment crop up here on some of the pages where people have had issues with svchost.exe processes and it's just not so. If it were true, then I'd have been seeing this kind of thing happen long before now, like earlier last year when I bought the computer. Since I've kind of got a stick up the bum about keeping my computer clean and free of horrid things that like to hammer me violently for not backing up my data (which I now do), I've almost always got my Task Manager and Resource Monitor open so I can peek in from time to time and see if anything weird is up. That, and I run my anti-virus program and anti-malware at least once a day. I've never seen my svchost.exe processes hammer out numbers like this. Right now, I have a temp fix in place where I suspend the process while I'm performing tasks unassociated with it. Then, when I need to open something attached to it, like windows picture viewer, Photoshop, and other such things, I just momentarily resume the process, open what I need to, then suspend it again. If someone here could help me to resolve this issue once and for all, that would be outstanding. My specialties lie in Graphic Design and using HTML and its variants to build webpages, not so much home computer repair. I am sorry you are having the problem, but I'm just glad that I am not the only one having this problem! It is driving me crazy! After reading your description, I seemed to have a few questions for you. My friend gave me my computer and it didn't have any of these problems before so he suspected that the problem was because I put a new hard drive in it (seagate brand), that this may be causing the issue? Is that what you are currently using? To give a little bit of detail on what I've tried so far, is I suspected that it was just my hard drive going bad. (I had this same problem 7 months ago.) This actually did ruin my hard drive, because it was constantly reading and writing, so it was worked to the bone and became as slow as a slug and totally ruined the hard drive. I had the hard drive on warranty, and received a new hard drive. I reinstalled windows again and now 7 months later, I am having the same issue all over again! I am constantly peeking at the resource monitor trying to figure out what is taking up all the speed on my computer and i never seem to have the same thing twice that is taking up the speed. First it was svchost.exe (netsvcs), the second time it was local system network (restricted), and now currently i am having another one labeled "system" and pagefile.sys (page file) They are run multiple amount of times and eat up my speed. Although some people may say that this is a virus, I can say that I am pretty sure that it is not. This is the 4th time I have had this happened, and I have completely wiped everything off my hard drive each time and started again with the same problem! I have even had 2 different hard drives! I only just wiped this whole computer 4 days ago and it is doing it again, with only 6 programs installed that I doubt contain viruses.
