My keyboard won't work when Windows boots. I read to try safe mode so I used F8 to boot into safe mode. The keyboard still won't work. I got an external keyboard, but it is having the same problem. Both keyboards light up when I turn on the laptop (Toshiba satellite) but then turn off.

Does this external keyboard work with a different USB port or on another PC? Could you try another external keyboard (if possible)?If the external keyboard also fails to work then it seems to be a serious hardware issue. I shall suggest you get the laptop checked by a Toshiba Service Center.
