stuck downloading/installing windows 8.1 preview from store (Win 8 Pro + Media Center)
Hey there, it seems this issue has been reported here and in other forums as well without a clear solution yet. Maybe it has to do with the fact ISO and servers hosting win8.1 store images are not supporting resume downloading...?

Well. i ve trying to update to windows 8.1 preview from Win 8 Pro + Media Center from the store app, (not sure if ISO files would cover Win Pro, thats why I prefer the store way).

After a while downloading the store app, shows the Pending status and it seems to be stuck in there forever BUT if I take a look at background processes in the windows resource monitor theres seems to be still downloading or writing this file to disk....

9431.0.winmain_bluemp.130615-1214_x64fre_client_Professionalwmc_en-us-IMP_CPWMCA_X64FRER_EN-US_ESD.esd

Downloading the ISO might work, but Im not conviced about the apps, support to win pro and specially media center in the current iso images....

Anyone with the same issue or any advice?

Thanks

I'm essentially complaining about the same thing. The lack of feedback throughout the download process is a major annoyance. I was hoping to use the ESD-to-ISO utility to fix the problem, but it did not pan out. Apparently ESD's are encrypted and we don't have access to the key.

Best of luck with your update! Let's hope our experiences with Preview are not a preview of things to come :-)

Hello!

The file name is:

9431.0.winmain_bluemp.130615-1214_x64fre_client_Professional_en-us-IMP_CPRA_X64FRER_EN-US_ESD.esd.

The file size is:2,348,377 KB in the folder

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\aca56ab04821560cb4ecf54d728d8286

I imagine the folder is named something different.

Good Luck!

This is supposed to be an easy process....why do Microsoft make everything so difficult, with so many problems!

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to check in and see if anyone has had any luck finding a resolution for this. No CD/DVD tray so I would prefer to use app store for my 8.1 Preview. Similar issue as above, download stops at 47% and then hangs there for 2-3 hours. Windows Store seems to lock up. If I bring up the task manager, the app install screen restarts and returns to "Pending" does not move on from there.

Windows 8 with English and Chinese Language Packs installed.

Similar file appears as described above in SoftwareDistribution\Download

File Size: 2,407mb

9431.0.winmain_bluemp.130615-1214_x64fre_client_Core_en-us-IMP_CCRA_X64FRER_EN-US_ESD

Does anyone else have a language pack installed, I had heard that had been an issue on the earlier release.

Hi, when I downloaded Windows 8.1 .iso file, I have full resume support. And about that pending in store, I also had this problem, especially on slow connection (tried at 256 kbps). Then afterwards I tried upgrading from store on a fast connection (2 mbps), everything was fine and was installed successfully. So, it may be due to slow connection, or switching off apps.

Thanks & have a nice day !

Windows 8 can mount and run the .ISO file without the need to burn a DVD. I used a fast connection from work to get the .ISO file to a USB stick. From there I copied it to my system and installation went on from there....

There are some nice additions to Win8.1; the reworked Start button is OK, but I wound up reinstalling "Classic Shell" just to get back to a more familiar world.

guys, in the end decided to go for the iso download way, as I see it theres no real warranty you ll end up downloading the correct and full size file from the store specially when you have lang packs or things like media center included nor to resume the download process if for some reason the store app for some reason fails. I ve also seen when the downloading is not in full screen or its switched you run the risk or resuming the download in the sense or restarting all again :) probably on fast connections none of this would happen regularly, not sure tho.

so lets hope the changes req. the windows team guys make the best effort to reduce the upgrade file size and certainly to deliver an store app able to manage an +2GB app by the final delivery of 8.1.

For now, I would really recommend the people with connection issues or dealing w this particular one to first 1) uninstall the initial KB patch you download before the preview, 2) update your windows 8 system with the driver versions and appropriate windows update stuff and 3) simply download the right ISO for your system and update 8.1 from there (theres no need to burn anything, windows natively supports and open ISO files) :)

  • If you have Windows 8 Pro with Media Center and you download the preview through the Windows Store, then you can keep Windows Media Center without reinstalling it.
  • If you install the preview using the ISO file, Windows Media Center will be removed and you'll need to reinstall it with your original Windows 8 Pro pack or Windows 8 Media Center Packproduct key.
