The title says it all. I've asked around and all I've heard so far is that "we've heard from a lot of angry parents". My son, a standard user on my Vista Ultimate box, has a game (FIFA 2 online) that must be elevated to ADMIN security credentials otherwise it will not start. (right click the icon, select run as Adminstrator, provide the password) . The problem is, now my password is divulged. I would like a way to start his game and keep the password private. I have tried the "runas" command, but I have not had any luck starting the game with it. I'm beginning to believe that this is one scenario that MS did not consider when they designed the layered security elevation and UAC. Otherwise, why would this be so difficult to do? On the face of it, it's surely a simple request.

Try this Right click the FIFA folder in Program Files. Choose Properties, Security tab. Click Edit button. Select Users in the top listbox and click Full Control in the bottom listbox. Thanks for that permissions tip. I was quite excited that this may be the solution; I gave "Users" Full Control, but still the gameloader.exe will not start the game. (the start button does not become active) I downloaded Procmon in the hope of finding file or registry permissions failures, but so far I've not been able to find anything. Let me ask you this - Does this same bizarro situation exist in Windows 7? Didn't Microsoft ever envisage a situation where a game may need Admin authority to run? It's easy for MS to say the game should have been written to run in standard-user security context, but I have to deal with the game the way it currently is.

If a guess doesn't work then Procmon is the way to go. Have you tried double clicking all exe files in the FIFA folder in case the game exe file is different to the launcher exe file. There may be a compatibility shim that could work. I've only used shims on earlier versions of windows. The compatability tab in properties are a few of the hundreds that exist.
