srv 2012 warning in windows 7.
Although it's a warning, it does cause I failed to save files through network drive when the warning occurred. I share a folder in my windows 7 laptop to one WinXP, but sometimes it failed to save files from the WinXP and the network drive is not accessible any more: Logon failure: unknown user or bad password. In the Win7 event viewer, I found SRV 2012 warning. When the warning happens, I have to reboot windows 7. Description: While transmitting or receiving data, the server encountered a network error. Occassional errors are expected, but large amounts of these indicate a possible error in your network configuration. The error status code is contained within the returned data (formatted as Words) and may point you towards the problem. Hi, Based on my experience, this Event log is mainly caused by old version network driver. I would like to suggest you updating the network card driver to the latest version. Best Regards Dale

Hi Dale, Thanks for your response. The Windows 7 is a physical laptop, while the Windows xp is a virtual machine in Vmware workstation 7. Maybe it's a problem of the virtual network driver of Vmware. Did someone report the similar problem? Thank you.

Did the Vmware share the host network card? Best Regards Dale

VMware added two virtual NICs, by default they are named VMnet1 (Host-only) and VMnet8(NAT). No virtual machines use VMnet1, the virtual windows XP uses VMnet8. The Windows 7 host shares a whole drive as writable, H drive shared as HH$. In the virtual Windows XP, I use a text editor to open some files in the shared folder, every 20 or 30 minutes, the editor reports some files are changed outside itself, asking whether to reload the files or not. I suspect that's because the connection between the host and guest was broken and reconnected. And finally the shared folder is not writable or not accessible. During the time there are about ten srv 2012 warning in the windows 7 event viewer. Thanks, Ricky

Has anyone found a resolution for this issue? I'm experiencing the same thing on a file server running Windows Server 2008 R2 that is virtualized on VMware ESX 4. When it occurs our users loose connectivity to the shares and are forced to reboot. It's happening a few times per day. - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System> <Provider Name="srv" /> <EventID Qualifiers="32768">2012</EventID> <Level>3</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Keywords>0x80000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2010-07-28T13:04:21.048445000Z" /> <EventRecordID>76645</EventRecordID> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>XXXXXXXX</Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData> <Data>\Device\LanmanServer</Data> <Binary>0000040001002C0000000000DC07008000000000840100C0000000000000000000000000000000008D050000</Binary> </EventData> </Event>

I am having a similar issue on SBS 2008. Just tonight, our server stopped responding and logged those same errors. It is a VM on vmware esx server 4.0. We recently had to update the host to allow IPv6, because some e-mails were not resolving, and the exchange diagnostics said that the network adapter didn't have IPv6 compatibility. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, I do have the latest drivers on the OS..
