sporatic play of an anomalous sound file acting like a default system sound
I have an annoying audio file that plays spuratically as if it were a default system sound. To add a note of humor to this entire situation, the afore mentioned sound file says "...please pass the wine" and while I've examined and cleanedmy registry I've found no existence of an abnormal or anomalous audio file in any known format on my system that would produce it.Does anyone know the cause of this sound file and what I can do to eradicate or resolveit. I've tried to find a system restore point that would allow me to predede it, but for some reason unknown to me I have no restore points on my system which is Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic.

Hello, Thanks for your post! I understand this issue like that some audio file is automatically played in your Windows Vista Home Basic sometimes, you dont know where the song comes and what produces it. If I misunderstood anything, please let me know. Besides, please also tell me more details about this issue, including: 1. Just before this issue, did you install any software or device? 2. Did the song played background, or via a player? 3. If you clean boot the system, will the song appear again? For more information about clean boot, please refer to:(KB929135) How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vistahttp://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;929135 Besides, if you have an anti-virus software installed in your system, please perform a full scan for your hard drive. Thanks! Im happy to be of further assistance. Regards, Lionel Chen Microsoft Online Community Support

Thank you Mr. Chen for your response. I followed the steps you outlined with a clean boot and I haven't yet rediscovered the audio file or experienced it in the course of my applications. I will continue to explore the services that are running to try and identify the source of the file and I'll share the results or lack thereof when I have arrived at an acceptible answer. Its difficult to identify what might have caused the problem because I had not installed anything on my system that I had not already been using before upgrading to Vista. If something else should be contributory to a firm resolution, please feel free to share it with me at your convenience. Respectfully, GlobalGood

Hi, Thanks for your feedback! If the issue disappears after clean boot, we are basically convinced 3rd party services or applications should be the cause. I recommend you to finish the troubleshooting steps provided in the KB article of clean boot. For your convenience, according to my experience, the strange symptom in this issue possibly due to malware hidden in the system. In such a case, I also suggest two tools for anti-malware: Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal ToolFor downloading:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ad724ae0-e72d-4f54-9ab3-75b8eb148356&displaylang=enFor more information:The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool helps remove specific, prevalent malicious software from computers that are running Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=890830 Windows Live OneCare online scan:http://onecare.live.com/site/en-US/center/howsafe.htm?s_cid=mscom_msrt Hope it helps!
