Let me start from the beginning here:There are TOO many reasons for this. You are out of Hard Drive space.Your Hard Drive is failing. You have Norton, McAfee or Trend, installed as your Antivirus. You are infected.Your RAM is bad.You have low virtual memory. You could be runing too many tasks at once. You have too many startup programs.Do you have any extra toolbars in browsers? (If so, uninstall them) Perhaps your hardware is failing."Hard drive is failing and is in PIO Mode (IDE drives only - not applicable to SATA drives). This is very dramatically slow (like being back in 1985). See Hans-Georg Michna's information here -http://winhlp.com/?q=node/10If the PIO registry fix doesn't "stick" (or you have a SATA drive), the hard drive is probably failing and should be tested.http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Hardware_Tshoot " (Malkeleah at THIS post.)To check your RAM:Testing with Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org . Download the .iso to make a bootable cd. Burn the file with 3rd party burning software as an image, not as data. A good 3rd party software is www.imgburn.com Bring up task manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del)Also, go to the processes tab and tell me what's using most of your CPU and Mem UsageYoung and learning...Have mercy - ChaosIf this post resolves your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" buttons. They are almostthe same, so I'll talk about them together. Having too many programsrunning, whether starting automatically or manually started afterbooting, is never an issue. Despite what many people tell you, you should be concerned, not withhow many programs you run, but which programs you run. Some ofthem can hurt performance severely, but others have no effect onperformance.Ken Blake

That's a very bad thing to do, andis much more likely to cause a problem than to solve one.Registry cleaning programs are all snake oil. Cleaning of theregistry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone anddon't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, andwhat vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneouslyremoving an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefitit may have. Read http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.htmlAnd alsohttp://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspxLet me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against theuse of registry cleaners has ever said that they always causeproblems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear fromthe market almost immediately. Many people have used a registrycleaner and never had a problem with it.Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with itthe substantial risk of having a problem. And since there is nobenefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very badbargain.Ken Blake

Despite what many people think, andwhat vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of,having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registryI have had to have my registries looked at after uninstalling a program and then trying to reinstall an update, but there has been a conflict because the registry still contained stuff from the old program. If uninstall took all traces from registry as well (surely not too difficult - what goes in must come out), there would be fewer conflicts, so in that sense it DOES help to be able to clean a registry. Nobody wants to go through the process of getting somebody on the end of a telephone to to take a user through steps. Is it beyond registry writers to come up with an effective registry cleaner?I smell a rat!(Sorry I couldn't answer original question, this is just a view.)F.
