Hello, I would like to add to the already good advice mentioned by Chunks: 1. www.malwarebytes.org is a great spyware tool. Run it to check for malware. 2. Check if your computer is paging due to a lack of RAM. Add RAM if necessary. 3. Run chkdsk @ command prompt and fix any problems if necessaryMiguel Fra / Falcon ITS Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL Visit our Knowledgebase Sharepoint Site

Registry cleaning programs are *all* snake oil. Cleaning of the registry isn't needed and is dangerous. Leave the registry alone and don't use any registry cleaner. Despite what many people think, and what vendors of registry cleaning software try to convince you of, having unused registry entries doesn't really hurt you. The risk of a serious problem caused by a registry cleaner erroneously removing an entry you need is far greater than any potential benefit it may have. Read http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000643.html and http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and also http://blogs.technet.com/markrussinovich/archive/2005/10/02/registry-junk-a-windows-fact-of-life.aspx Let me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against the use of registry cleaners has ever said that they always cause problems. If they always caused problems, they would disappear from the market almost immediately. Many people have used a registry cleaner and never had a problem with it. Rather, the problem with a registry cleaner is that it carries with it the substantial *risk* of having a problem. And since there is no benefit to using a registry cleaner, running that risk is a very bad bargain. Ken Blake

review the Windows Experience Index. Start>right-click Computer>select properties>select Windows Experience Index. Examine the lowest to the highest numbers. Better hardware in the low areas will improve the "speed". Of course, the motherboard and finances limit this approach. You'll get a good boost with the max CPU and Display Adapter that your motherboard can handle. Don't run multiple security programs. It causes confilcts. Most will cover all malware. Select one. Disable real-time protection in Windows Defender if you have a security program. Confirm that you have the proper Windows 7 drivers for your motherboard and devices.

With reg cleaners you can back up the changes the program makes so you can re-add them if it causes any problems. I have to say i have never had a problem with the cleaner i mentioned.www.mypchealth.co.uk

Unless the result of using the registry cleaner is an unbootable computer, which is not an uncommon problem. > I have to say i have never had a problem with the cleaner i mentioned. I'll repeat what I said in an earlier message in this thread: "Let me point out that neither I nor anyone else who warns against the use of registry cleaners has ever said that they always cause problems. Hi Ken, Would you like to enlighten us on how to cure the problem then if all the other suggestions dont cut it with you.? www.mypchealth.co.uk

Let me just add that I agree with Ken and Andre.Ziegler. Sorry Chunks_. I believe that messing with the registry is like doing brain surgery. The doctor better know what he's doing. With registry "cleaners" you take the risk that your computer may end up in ICU for the rest of its life. Besides, a lot of these "snake oil" programs are unnecessary, redundant add-ons and they oftentimes create problems and can carry out adware/spyware related tasks. You can remove unwanted programs from the startup with the MSCONFIG command. MiguelMiguel Fra / Falcon ITS Computer & Network Support, Miami, FL Visit our Knowledgebase Sharepoint Site

How to cure a problem that is described as nothing more than "slow machine"? With so little information, neither I nor anyone else can possibly have an answer. The best anyone can do is make a guess, and I don't like making guesses. That said, among the most likely possibilities are 1. Inadequate hardware for what programs are being run 2. Malware infection 3. Performance-robbing programs running in the background. Ken Blake
