Hi Brian, Thank you for posting. Sharing the root directories may cause some potential issues. For system security, we recommend to share the folders instead of the root directories. (For more information, please refer to the section Administrative Shares and Sharing the Root of a Drive of the following document). File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx If you still want to share the root directly, please disable the sharing and reconfigure the sharing according the steps of the section Administrative Shares and Sharing the Root of a Drive. After the steps, please also go to the partitions Properties, check both Sharing and Security settings, and make sure that you have assigned the Full-Control permissions to "Everyone. Meanwhile, I would like to share the following documents with you. Hi, Thank you for updating. If you have set up a LAN and want to share the folders and files via the network, we can get it work with the information I have given previously. After doing this, other computers on the network can access the shared folders or files. If an issue is encountered, it should be a networking issue or an authentication issue, and we will help you troubleshooting it. By the way, I am not sure your opinion of in computer sharing and over network sharing, could you please let me know in detail, and an example is appreciated? Meanwhile, please also let us know the current network environment, the IP Address assignment, the way of connecting (router or switch, wired or wireless), etc. To share the folders or files, we can try the following: 1. Please ensure that all the computers are in the same workgroup. 2. Please enable the file and printer sharing on all computers. 3. Share the folders and files, On the Windows Vista computer, you can try the steps of Share files from any folder on your computer on the following webpage: Share files with someone http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/9636e0f2-0223-45d2-89cb-3e317c4509051033.mspx 4. Then all the computers can access the share. Meanwhile, this is an overall guide of sharing files on Windows Vista: File and Printer Sharing in Windows Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx Please let us know if this meets your needs. If not, please feel free to let us know your need and we will try our best to help you. I have also noticed you have post other threads, lets continue our discussion in this thread since they are all regarding this issue. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hi, Thank you for your update. I know that you want to share the files on your home network. To share the root of a drive, do the following: 1. Right-click the drive in the Computer window, and then click Share. Windows Vista displays the properties for the drive with the Sharing tab selected. 2. Click Advanced Sharing. 3. In the Advanced Sharing dialog box, click Share this folder and specify the share name, permissions, and other settings as needed. Regarding the permission, please ensure the following in the properties of the drive: 1) On the Sharing tab and click Advanced Sharingin the new opened window, click permissions and see if the Everyone exists and Full control has been checked. 2) On the Security tab and check if the object Everyone exists. If not, please add it first and then check if the Full control has been checked. 4. Click OK, and then click Close. Because the driveletter$ shares already exist, you cannot share the root of a drive with the name driveletter$. However, you can share it with another name, such as driveletter. For example, you cannot share the root of your C: drive as C$, but you can share it as C. After performing this, please check if you can access the share on other computers of the network. Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT
