ok here i go for one i dodnt look at the endless topics on this to see if my answer is ther im sorry im aggravated with vista. anyway i have 3 computers one being a master computer with all the music on it with vista home premium and the other two having xp pro and mce 2005. anyway i have been having trouble tying to share a whole hard drive over my network i see the hard drive in the my network plces in the cp comps but i cant access them. i have put all the computers on the same network name if that matters at all. if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciatedthanks brian

Hi Brian, Thank you for posting. Sharing the root directories may cause some potential issues. For system security, we recommend to share the folders instead of the root directories. (For more information, please refer to the section Administrative Shares and Sharing the Root of a Drive of the following document). ok im able to see it on the other computers but unable to access it cant open the drive on xp. one of my computers is running vista and all the others is on xp and the vista and that one update for the sharing isn't working on xp i get the same thing. and in computer sharing is when you just share with other users of the computer and over the netwwork sharing is well you can acess it on other compters in different roomsin the house or building

Hi, Thank you for your update. I know that you want to share the files on your home network. To share the root of a drive, do the following: 1. Right-click the drive in the Computer window, and then click Share. Windows Vista displays the properties for the drive with the Sharing tab selected. 2. Click Advanced Sharing. 3. In the Advanced Sharing dialog box, click Share this folder and specify the share name, permissions, and other settings as needed. Regarding the permission, please ensure the following in the properties of the drive: 1) On the Sharing tab and click Advanced Sharingin the new opened window, click permissions and see if the Everyone exists and Full control has been checked. 2) On the Security tab and check if the object Everyone exists. If not, please add it first and then check if the Full control has been checked. 4. Click OK, and then click Close. Because the driveletter$ shares already exist, you cannot share the root of a drive with the name driveletter$. However, you can share it with another name, such as driveletter. For example, you cannot share the root of your C: drive as C$, but you can share it as C. After performing this, please check if you can access the share on other computers of the network.
