sharing between home and pro
I have a work group with 3 home and one pro machines. I can share between the home machines without problem. I cannot access or share with the pro machine. I get access denied when I try to access the pro version. I don't no why.

Do you have the same accounts/passwords established on all systems? Also, have you verified that if any of the systems are running the Windows Firewall, that the proper exceptions have been configured? Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

I have passwords and windows firewall turned off. I use Outpost Security Suite with settings on all machines the same. I can "see" the pro but get the error so I don't think it is any kind of security setting and the pro has everyone allowed. The pro can send files to the home machines, but not the reverse

When you attempt to acces resources on the pro edition, are you getting prompted for credentials? Or simply getting an access denied error?Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

I think its definately security permission related. take a look at this article, see if its relevant to your OS and Networking Setup: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7security/thread/23369f35-bc45-4147-9c3e-74a47d530757Visit: anITKB.com, an IT Knowledge Base.

Thanks for your time. There may be something there that I can try. I am admin and no passwords are used. I may try entering //name/user name in permissions to see what happens. Something changed (me probably) as can no longer get the network map. Heck, I went through the learning curve with XP, but I think networking was easier with XP. I just hope SP1 addresses some networking issues. Home group may be fine with most people, but NOT for the ones that want to get the most out of their machines. Cheers

Hi, I would like to suggest you perform the following steps and share the file again to test the issue. Check the sharing permissions ============================= 1. Right click on the folder you want to share and click “Properties”. 2. Click the “Security” tab and “Edit” button. 3. Click “Add” button, type “Everyone” and click “Check Name” and “OK” button. 4. Highlight “Everyone”, check “Full Control” for “Allow” and click “OK”. 5. Click “Sharing” tab and “Advanced Sharing” button. 6. Check “Share this folder” box, click “Permissions” button. 7. If “Everyone” is listed, please highlight it and check “Full Control” for “Allow” 8. If “Everyone” is not listed, please click “Add” button, type “Everyone” and click “Check Name” and “OK” button. 9. After that, please repeat the Step 7. Does it work? Yes, Arthur the drive is set up that way. Even if I have one folder set up that way, it doesn't work. I have a new router on order and am working with my firewall vendor to see if they find anything.
