shareing a printer inwindows 7 with a workgroup of xp's
Just replaced my main workgroup computer with a new windows 7 machine. Installed all my software,(held my breath) software share works great.Installed my printer on the 7 machine no luck. had to get drivers from hp, got that working.Try to set up network printer on xp machines to windows 7 share, get driver error before install completed. with both 32 and 64 versions of the windows 7 and xp drivers. Any sugestions? Before you ask ... printer and driver folders are shared, printer is listed in the workgroup under the windows 7 machine. It can be seen in workgroup on xp machines,hp support sent me here. The printer is a hp laserjet 1320Update: removed printer from windows 7 machine, installed it on one of the xp machines, now everyone in workgroup but the windows 7 can use the printer. still driver errors.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=410624&lang=en&cc=au&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=410622&taskId=135I looked at the above site for HP printer drivers for the model of the pritner you mention. there are seperate drivers for for Windows 7 and Windows XP. You have to download the appropriate drivers for the version of windows 7/windows xp (32 bit or 64 bit) and install them on the respective machine. In the first instance when you installed the windows printer on windows 7 machine you installed windows 7 drivers. but when you share the printer on windows xp machine you need to install windows xp drivers. In the second instance, which is the opposite of the first, you installed the printer on windows xp and shared it. when you install the shared printer on windows 7 you need to provide it with the windows 7 drivers. To verify which version of windows 7 you have, click on start button, select control panel, click on system. Under the System category it will tell you the system type, that is, if it is 32 bit or 64 bit. You would then need to download the appropriate version and install it.To verify the version of windows XP go to control panel and click on system. There if it tells you the version of windows xp is 64 bit then you would have download the 64 driver otherwise it is 32 bit.Hope this helps.

The issue might be connected to "name difference". Meaning name of the printer on one of the OS is different then the name for Exact same printer inside .inf file. THis can happen especially on Win7 system. Check that out.

I got it going on a windows XP and Windows 7 32bit machines. I am sure that you can install this on a windows 7 x64 machine as well. Here is what I did.I downloaded the windows xp 32 bit HP LaserJet 1320 PostScript Driver from the above mentioned linkI downloaded the HP Universal Print Driver for Windows PostScript for Windows 7 32bit from the above mentioned link. You need to download the x64 bit driver from the above link for your windows 7 machine.I installed the printer on the windows xp 32 machine and it installed successfully. I shared the printer and made sure that the shared printer is available over the network.I then ran the downloaded driver for windows 7 on the windows 7 machine and installed it in tradiitonal mode. During the installation it gave me the option to connect to a local printer or a shared network printer. I connected it to the shared network printer and it installed successfully.I did manage to replicate the error that you mention, when I tried to add additional drivers (for Vista and windows 7)for the printer in question on the xp 32 bit machine via Server Properties, Drivers tab. This method did not work. Try installing as per the above way.Ajay

If ur printer works on both machines locally you can do the following.1. Download drivers for WinXP and drivers for Win7.2. Place and install printer locally on one of the systems lets say Win7And then do the following on WinXP machine: Click Start, click Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes. Double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer Wizard, and then click Next. Click Local printer, clear the Automatically detect and install check box, and then click Next. Click Create a new port, and then click Local Port in the Port type section. In the Port Name box, type the path to the printer in the following format, where server is the name of the print server and printer is the name of the printer: \\server\printer Click Next, and then select a Windows 2000 or Windows XP driver for your printer. Click Next, and then follow the instructions to finish the wizard. Note the 6. step.. you gotta install WinXP printers as if you would add printer locally.btw, intructions taken from: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/282842Please post feedback.

Hello, I have a new Win 7 64bit workstation and the rest of my network (peer to peer) is win xp 32 bit. I was able to install the HP printer locally on the the win 7 desktop. I need the printer installed on the XP server. When I try to network it via Win 7 I get an .ini error. If I keep the printer on the xp machine what are the steps to network it with the win 7 workstation? I have gotten up to step 5 on the win 7 machine in terms of creating a local port. What driver do i install and how do I find the .ini file after I unzip the file? I have tried alot of driver packs unzipping to over 60 files- none with ini extensions. Thanks Andrea
