share vs advanced sharing options (only advanced access permissions work)

Hi.

I was under the impression that the "share" option in the sharing tab controls access over the network.I usually add "everyone" and then control access more specifically with the security NTFS permissions.

I've been trying to access a windows share on a windows 8 machine from windows 7.I cannot access the share by adding everyone via the "share" option. The only way I can access the folder Is by adding "everyone" via the "advanced sharing" option.

Why does It work through advanced sharing but not through the simple sharing option If I'm simply adding the "everyone" group In both cases ?

I'm Just very curious as to what the differences are between "sharing" and "advanced sharing".I can't seem to find an exact answer on the web.

UPDATE:

If I remove the "everyone" group from "advanced sharing" on a windows 7 machine , when I go to the simple "share" and add "everyone" , the group Is also added to "advanced sharing" again.

This does not occur on the windows 8 machine.

UPDATE 2:

I created a folder on the windows 7 desktop and It's the same as windows 8 there. The "everyone" Is not replaced In advanced sharing. Is there some special rules on certain system folders ?
