setting up network printer xp/7
Hi I have a printer connected to an XP professional computer and have been able to connect to it fine through the network from my laptop also running XP pro. I have just upgraded my laptop and am now running windows 7. When i try and browse for the printer it doesn't show up at all, but the Microsoft XPS document writer on the other machine does show up. What can i do?

did you share the printer??use the IP address to view the share(s).the search box type\\ipaddress_of_the_boxdo you see the printer.Below are some notes on networking may not need to tweak them allIn the Advanced sharing settings page of Network and sharing center, you need to have it set as Work/Home profile. Try Make sure computers are the same workgroup for now (you can change it later)Enable network discoveryTurn on file and print sharingTurn off password protected sharingTurn on Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers The other settings such as encryption I have set as use 128 bit encryption, you may need lower. Please check related policies. 1. Enter “gpedit.msc” in the Start Search box. 2. Open “Computer Configuration”/Windows Settings/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Settings.3. In the right pane, enable the following policies: Network access: Allow anonymous SID/name translationNetwork access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users Also please disable the following policies. Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and SharesNetwork access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accountsNetwork access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares Change the following policy:Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Change the value to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”. If the issue persists, change the Kerberos encryption type. 1. Open gpedit.msc. 2. Find the policy Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options ->Network Security: Configure encryption types allowed for Kerberos 3. Configure the policy. If it is not configured, actually both DES cipher suites are disabled. I suggest that you enable all the suits. Then please check the result. If a HOME version of win 7 1. Launch regedit from Start Search box.2. Find the following branch. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa 3. Create a DWORD key under Lsa and set: Name: LmCompatibilityLevel Value: 1 4. Restart.
