setting up Lan port teaming
I was just wondering if anybody would have any ideas on how to team my two lan ports. I have a gigabyte ga ex58-ud5 motherboard and windows 7 ulitmate 64bit with a linksys WRT310N. Now my first question is with my current setup is it possible to do, aka does the router support 802.3ab or not. second if it does what steps do I need to go throught to set it up. Now I've done some research on port aggregation and port trunking and whatever you call it in your neck of the woods and i'm not trying to improve my internet speeds or anything, I just would like to know how to do it. Also I did try the realtek diagnostic utility that came with the motherboard and it does create a third port with is supposed to take the place of the other two but I am not able to enable it because of drivers acording to the port properties. But other than that utility I have not been able to find anything else online that will team Lan ports. i'm am open to any and all ideas.

Hi, As far as I know, Team functionality is not possible with home routers, especially when the ISPs are different. It was possible with MLPPP (multi link PPP). To enable teaming feature, it is required the connected network switch or router device supports the IEEE 802.3ad LACP standard. Please refer to the following steps: 1. Insert the motherboard driver disk and select “Application software, Install Application Software”. Click Install under Realtek Ethernet Teaming Utility for installation. Restart your system when completed. 2. Click Start, point to All Programs, click “Realtek Teaming and VLAN”, click “Realtek Teaming and VLAN Utility”. 3. Select the two adapters and set up the Teaming mode based on your hub's specifications. Then click the Teaming button. (Two dialog boxes will appear during the setup process, click OK to continue). When the Create Virtual Adapter For Teaming Complete dialog box appears, click OK to complete. 4. After the Teaming is created, you will see only one connection in Network and Sharing Center. 5. Click View status in Network and Sharing Center and you will see the connection speed is 2.0 Gbps. For more information, please download the User Manual from GIGABYTE: motherboard_manual_ga-ex58-ud5(p)_e.pdf Please note: we provide the third party link for technical use only. There may be some changes without notice, Microsoft doesn’t guarantee any accuracy on contacting information. BTW, since teaming functionality is a feature of GIGABYTE motherboard, it is recommended to contact GIGABYTE for a specific support. Thanks for the help. I did realize that the router or switch needs to be compatible as i said in my original question and i obviously did try the motherboard driver disk and it didn't work as i stated in my original question. The reason i posted on this forum was to find out if windows 7 itself actually supports it since i wasn't able to find out any info either way anywhere else and if there was a walk-through to set it up without a utility. thank you for your time and attention to this matter. BTW i will try contacting gigabyte for specific support.
