Hi,1. How long have you been facing this issue?2. Did you make any recent hardware or software changes on your computer prior to this issue?3. What are you trying to backup?Step 1: This behavior can occur if the user account you used when you created the task has a blank (null) password. When you add a scheduled task to your Windows XP-based computer, you must provide a user name and password for the task. If you are using a local user account, the user password cannot be blank. For more information visit: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310715Step 2: Check if Task Scheduler service is running. If it’s not running then, start it and set it to automatic.a. Click on start button > click on Run > type services.mscand press enter.b. Now search for Task Scheduler service and do as suggested.Step 3: Also check for error messages in event viewer. If you find any error messages then post back the exact error message so that we can assist you better.Steps to check Application Event log:a. Click on start.b. In the search box type eventvwr.msc and press enter.c. Now click on Application under Event Viewer (local).d. Now look for event log on right hand side of the Event Viewer windows.Refer:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/snap_event_viewer.mspx?mfr=truehttp://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/event_overview_01.mspx?mfr=trueStep 3: a. Try to create a new scheduled job using the backup utility and make sure youdont use any special charecters like (, _ * etc.) in the Job name.b. Open scheduled tasks from controll panel. Right click on the new scheduled joband click Runc. Check if it runs or not. - If it is running without any problem then check thejob name of the previous job which failedd. To check the job name - Job name is the name in which the job is listed under scheduled tasks.e. If the job name has got any special charecters try to rename it and try to Runthe job. It will prompt you for the password of the user account while renaming thejob.f. In most cases it might not workg. If renaming didn't work then create a new job and make sure that the job name doesnt contain any special charecters. Thanks and Regards Umesh P - Microsoft Support.
