same protocol stack to wireless adapter binding failures on multiple Windows 7 64 bit systems and multiple USB wireless adapters
I've tried all possible combinations of linksys, dlink, and trednet wireless adapters on a 8 month old gateway i7-920 and a new hp i3-m330 under windows 7 and in each and every case, and from Windows diags I get "There might be a problem with the driver for the wireless Network Connection adapter", with the details, "Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter."Both machines are Windows 7 64 bit, all adapters had the most current drivers installed, all used the IEEE 802.11n finialized standards (jan. 18, 2010), both Windows 7 machines were current for Windows Update. Two adapters were Windows 7 64 bit certified by Microsoft. Two weeks of exhausting all the usual fixes through susport from linksys, d-link, and Trendnet never succeeded in finding a solution. The only point of universal concurence was that it was a Windows 7 problem. This makes sense because older versions of Microsoft Network monitor have the same binding problems when run on Windows 7, but the new version of Microsoft Network monitor works on Windows 7.Also the i3 system has a built in wireless adapter that works. It has nothing to do with the router since the half dozen local wireless routers don't show up on any of the problem adapters possible connection list. Also the wireless adapters all seem in install without error, and show up OK on the Windows 7 Network and sharing>>change adapter settings>>Wireless Network connections list, but at the same time are not found on the computer when searched for by utilities such as the HP Wireless Assistent which is supposed to show all adapters regardless of state.Does anyone know the answer to this problem?PS >The Gateway FX6800-0e1 w/ 8 cpu threads has run flawlessly under Windows 7 64x clean install since Windows 7 GA except for the wireless adapter problem. Its previous performance under Gateway OEM Vista was flawed in dozens of ways.>The HP dv6-2173cl w/ 4 cpu threads is one of the next generations laptops using the i3-M330 official OEM release by Intel on Jan. 5, 2010. The laptop has performed perfectly in all regards including its internal wireless adapter. The external wireless adapter is the only imperfection in behavior I have found to date.

I can tell you that HP 64 bit windows is flaky at best.I would lean to the chipset as the problem (I am guessing nvida or some other cheap chipset)USB / Wifi work fine on Dells' (all intel chipsets) but I and many others have seen that on HP / Gateway / cheap dollar store PC's / motherboardsit just fails flat out or is flaky (dropping connections / failing to get IP).To test this we took an HP laptop with win 7 home prem on it, USB wifi devices which work on the dell where not installing on HP.I wiped and loaded the box with a retail win 7 pro after loading the chipset drivers I was able to load the USB devices and they worked withoutissues, we did a factory restore and NO the USB WI-FI device would not load ...HP said it was / is a USB device / win 7 issue and nothing to do with their install, and that just because I can get it work on a clean install means nothing. But what do you expect from a dollar store low end PC, come on is asking for a WORKING system is just asking to much.unbinding IP6 and hard coding the IP address is a work around for some...some as in very few.

I found the answer to this problem and my assumptions in the original note were wrong. The common factor between the two compuers is that the wireless adpaters were installed after my Kaspersky last scanned the computers in question for OK programs. This is usually done when first installing Kaspersky and there are few occasions that it ever be done again.By installing the wireless adapters and then reinstalling the Kaspersky, the wireless adapters worked on both machines from that point forward. The reason that this was hard to find is that all manipulations of Kaspersky, even pausing it, disabling it, or not running it, do not fix the situation and the wireless adapters will not be recognized. It is only reinstalling Kaspersky that fixed the situation for me. I don't know for a fact, but I think repairing Kaspersky, which rescans the computer for software/hardway, may fix the problem as well, but I did not try this.

Bingo. Kaspersky was the problem. I ran a repair on K. and within 5 minutes the problem was solved. That was after 2+ hours attempting other unsuccessful solutions including registry edits, command prompt attacks on the IP, countless device manager visits, IPHelper service restarts, and half a dozen computer reboots. Thanks J for the solution.

Thank you sooooo much for this, I was tearing my hair out all day trying to get the adaptor to work with Win7 - quick 'repair' of Kaspersky [accessed from Start/All Programs/Kaspersky.../modify Repair remove] and it worked in 20 seconds - brilliant!

i had this problem arise after a driver update for my realtek wireless nic, it had me almost beaten. i even tried reinstalling windows and made the unfortunate choice of installing kaspersky before getting the wireless driver reinstalled, so the problem persisted. anyway after 12 or so hrs and $40 spent on a new wireless nic the problem has finally been resolved. cant thank you enough for sharing this info!! now i can finally get back to studying.... networking, lol.

Guys I had this problem too. All you need to do for Kaspersky is to remove it from the protocol stack please check this link on how to remove Kaspersky from the network adapter protocol stack. http://www.fixya.com/support/t425731-kaspersky_firewall_blocking_wireless I hope this help other people not to uninstall their antivirus. I was getting the dreaded "couldn't automatically bind the ip protocol stack to the network adapter" message after I deinstalled Avira. Apparently anti-virus programs block hardware they don't know from accessing the net. There is a simple solution I found here http://forums.techguy.org/networking/953926-solved-help-windows-couldnt-bind.html Simply remove the Network adapter from the hardware list in the Device Manager and let Windows find it again (or install the drivers yourself). By the way : this was the advice I got when I followed Mahmoud's link above, which might be helpful for others: "if you want to stop Kaspersky firewall blocking then go to control panel > Network Connections > your Local Area Connection > properties > In the General tab you will see list of check box's > in one of them you will find "Kaspersky Anti-Virus NDIS Filter" Unstall that one." I tried to find it, but in Windows 7 it all looks different and I couldn't seem to find those settings, should they exist at all. - Marinus

I had the same problem, In My Case it was a VPN client software the cultprit. I uninstalled in from the Network Settings and everything is fine now. So check for any unusual entry in the network settings and unselect it and see how is it going. If it is success for you, try unintsall it. :)
