running sfc /scannow
Currently running Windows XP SP3 having upgraded via Windows Update from original XP. Tried to run sfc /scannow and received messages that some files needed to be replaced, asking for the XP SP3 install disk. I downloaded an ISO file of XP SP3, burned it to a CD and provided it when prompted. The disk was a compilation of updates and did not resolve the issue. In a different forum (WindowsClub) I was directed to provide a CD of XP SP3 (installation media). Can anyone provide information about how to resolve this issue / obtain an appropriate CD?1 person needs an answerI do too

Can anyone provide information about how to resolve this issue / obtain an appropriate CD?The CD that the System File Checker (sfc) is looking for is the Windows XP install CD. If you need a CD with service pack 3, you'll have to combine sp3 with a complete install CD that incorporates sp1, 1a, or 2. If your XP CD is "original" (i.e., pre-service pack 1), you'll need to slipstream sp2 (or sp1a) first, then sp3. Seehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389There are lots of websites that describe how to do this. Here are a few:http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/xpsp3_slipstream.asphttp://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp3_cd.htmhttp://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/creating-an-xp-sp3-slipstreamed-iso-file/1848http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/slipstream.htmThe two most popular utilities for slipstreaming areNlite http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.htmlAutostreamer http://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/223562-autostreamer-1033/
