VJ - Exactly what URL were you going to when you got that error message? It's indicating that there's an object being sent to the browser that isn't supported. The question is - do you get the same error with an earlier version of Windows and a different browser? Have you tried the compatability mode button when going to that web page?

Sir,In the earlier version, i didn't received this type of error. I want to go http://dgft.delhi.nic.in/(click on ECOM Application then login (for digital signature). Please tell me about compatability mode button for the above issue. Thanks a lot.Vj Bansal

VJ - Ok.. I checked out the link and the ECOM applet.. 1.) There is no compatability mode button for this site - as it's already compatible with IE 8. (or so it claims to be). If a site was incompatible with IE 8's more standard's compliant programming, there would be a broken page icon at the end of the address bar at the top - just before the Refresh and Stop buttons. 2.) I got as far as installing the ActiveX component - and having that installation fail. Did you get the error before or after installing the ActiveX component?3.) The Directorate General of Foreign Trade people are really asking me to trust them quite a long way. Looking at the instructions - they want you lower a LOT of defenses built into IE 8 all because they're for some unknown reason unwilling or unable to generate a certificate for their activeX plug in. As such, I'm thinking I'd rather not lower my defenses. These days there really isn't any excuse for not getting a digital signature for ANY activeX component. Especially if this is a site run by the Indian government. The supreme irony - they're talking abouthow to geta digital certificate at the top of the page and yet, they are lacking in doing so on their own site. There is such a thing as practicing what they preach...If I were you, I'd be very, very careful with installing any unsigned activeX component.

Sir,In the earlier version Windows Xp (Sp2), there was no problem, even now for the time being i have installed that in another system and that is working properly.Regarding ActiveX component, i have not found any of error before and now due to enabling of Download Signed / unsigned ActiveX Component and its did not happened anything wrong to the system and ofcourse, we have to believe on that. You can say we are much secure from this government website. Please tell me more to do something for that, otherwise i will have to miss Windows 7.Vj Bansal

VJ - Yes... That was a problem with XP... The security in XP was lacking. While SP2 did make things a bit safer - it still isn't 100% perfect. Vista and Windows 7 do a LOT better job in making browsing secure. The really BIG problem I have with your government's web site - the instructions listed to install this ECOM tool also lay your computer WIDE open to other sites that are NOT safe to visit. I speak of the following instructions:Download signed ActiveX controls => Set as Enable Download unsigned ActiveX controls => Set as Enable Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe => Set as Enable Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins => Set as Enable Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting => Set as EnableIf you look in the Security Tab in IE 8's Internet Options and click on Custom level - and look for the corresponding settings, EVERY single one of them is marked as "NOT SECURE". It's like playing Russian Roulette with 5 loaded chambers. You can still go ahead and disable the security and install this. And as long as you ONLY visit this one web page, you might be safe. Go elsewhere, and you can find your system in BIG trouble. As such - it's rather easy. Press the ALT key, Click Tools | Internet Options, Select the Security tab and click the Custom level button. Follow the instructions above and click OK twice. Good Luck.. You will probably need it.

VJ - Well... Not much more I can suggest. Make sure that you have the check box in the Advanced tab under Internet options checked that reads "Enable native XMLHTTP support". There was of this particular object type not being supported under Windows 98 that generated this particular error message. If that doesn't work. You could try XP mode if your hardware supports virtualization.

Hi, I also suspect this issue may be related to the browser plug-ins. Please try removing all the browser plug-ins and see if it works. Please also perform a Clean Boot to check the issue. Clean boot ================= 1) Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Search box, and then press Enter. Note: If prompted, please click Continue on the User Account Control (UAC) window. 2) Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3) Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK. NOTE: we can go back to normal boot by running msconfig again and checking on Normal Startup in the General tab. In the Clean Boot Environment, the third party services and applications are disabled, please check if the issue reoccurs at this time. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT
