router issue
i have a user that just bought a new HP with Windows7. she has a new Belkin router and when she connects the HP desktop to the belkin router all her other pc's are blocked from the internet. can anyone tell me what this is? she is using comcast and I had her remove the Norton software that i thought was causing the issue but that didnt work. if the new HP isnt connected to the belkin router then the other pc's work fine. thanks

You have provided nothing to work with. You should check that the router support windows 7 If it does then you need to post Ipconfig / all from the windows 7 and one other PC

it does support windows 7 if i have any other pc connected to the router it works fine but when i connect the HP box to the router it blocks all other pc's from getting access. they wont connect on wireless or plugged into the router. not sure whats blocking it. i even shut down the firewall on the HP box and removed the Norton software but that didnt work either.

The problem may be Comcast instead of the router. My cousin has Comcast and she tells me the parameters in Windows must be exactly as required by Comcast for any system to connect to it. Everytime my uncle visits her she has to setup his connection so his system will "talk" to Comcast. I would suggest contacting Comcast and inquiring about the network settings.

This sounds like a router configuration issue. Have you tried rerunning the wizard in your router setup? Is this via wireless, wired, or both? Can you outline your network for us? -Chris

yes i had her install the belkin software on a laptop and it worked great and the other laptops could connect to comcast fine thru the router both by the cable and wireless but once she hooked up the HP desktop pc all the laptops lost the connection and couldnt get it back. there has to be something in windows & that is blocking the laptops thru the router but HP wont tell me what it is without paying them and comcast says the internet connection is fine as does belkin. only HP said they have the fix but want the user to pay for it. which i think is nuts since she just bought the pc. just hoping someone had run into this issue and had an answer. thanks for the help

Are there any other devices hooked up to this network or is it like this... Cable connection > Comcast modem > Router > PCs ...the wizard I am talking about is accessed via http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1, not software on the computer. Are we on the same page with this? Also, have you tried using a wired connection (connect directly to router vs. wireless) to see if that makes a difference?

yes just cable/comcast modem/belkin router/ then pc's works great if i only use laptops either connected to router with cable or wireless but as soon as she plugs in the HP desktop with windows 7 all laptops will stop getting a connection no matter if they are wireless or directly connected with a cable. HP told her they could connect to her pc and fix the issue but they would charge her which i think is a load of ____ since this pc is only 2 weeks old. thats why i was hoping someone had already had this done and knew a fix for it. i would hate to have her pay HP for a couple of mins of work thanks again

Boot win 7 to safe mode with networking and test, that way if it is some software on the box which is running it should not cause the issue. IF the issue is still there the next step is to return the system for refund. If you search any windows 7 forum you will see that HP is by far the most trouble with win 7 and networking. Does it have that HP tools trash software on it???

Hi JBradsher, I would like to suggest you update the firmware for the Belkin router to check the issue. If it does not work, you may also try to assign the static IP addresses to the computers, according to the IP address range of the router. If the issue persists, you may also contact Belkin Support for further assistance. Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.
