Did it come with a recovery partition?I believe that Microsoft requires that some sort of recovery option be included with every Windows PC.With Acer, it seems to be called eRecovery:http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/Acer%20eRecovery%20Management%20for%20%20DT.pdfI suggest downloading and reading the above.A vesrion of the software is supposed to exist in your Programs file, assuming that wasn't trashed by the Win7 installation.Once you've restored Vista, I suggest using the utility to create recovery disks. That'll be handy if the hard drive ever fails; the recovery partition would be gone with the drive.

it told me to press alt and f10 on bootup but that didnt work, thank you though Yikes. You hold down alt and F10 (a quick keypress may not do) and nothing happens? It's a BIOS feature, so I hope thatinstalling Win7 on the OS partition wouldn't affect that, as long as the recovery partition wasn't deleted or reformatted. Neither should have happened with a Win7 install, although your friend could have deleted any partitions if s/he chose to.Does the recovery partition show in Windows Explorer? It does on my laptop (Compaq CQ50-105NR), but Windows won't show its contents. It's about 10GB in size.Failing all that, contact Acer. They can probably supply a set of restore disks. It may not be free, but I expect that it would be much less than buying a new Vista license.

When you installed 7, it shouldn't have removed the Acer recovery partition (unless you clean installed and mistakenly deleted it manually). When you boot, see if there is any other option on the screen for recovery -- maybe your bios version is different. It not, I agree with bobkn -- just call acer. I had to get recovery disk for my laptop one time and it cost about 15 bucks shipped. I don't have an Acer PC, but I'm sure they're about the same.

When you installed it if you by chance chose not to format the partition and selected move the existing system to a folder called windows.old it could be hiding in there. Just open that folder and select all, then movethe foldersto the root of the partition.Selecting move to windows.old during installworks out very well and is a great way to revert to the previous system with all programs functioning including documents and personal settings.
