I'm trying to remove apple update software having removed all other apple software and am getting a message saying apple update msi cannot be found, hoe do i remove this? For windows Xp: Perform the following steps to remove Apple Update Software from Program Files. 1. Double click on My Computer icon on your desktop to open it. 2. Under My Computer double click on C: drive to open it. (Or drive IN, WHICH windows is installed) 3. Under C: drive; double click on Program Files folder to open it. 4. Under Program Files look for the folder Apple Update Software; delete it (if found). 5. After completing all above steps close Program Files folder. Perform the following steps to remove Apple Update Software from Registry : 1.Click Start, Click Run. 2.In the open text box type: "regedit" (without quotes) 3.Click ok to launch Registry Editor window. 4.In the left pane, click on + sign in front of My Computer to expand it. 5.Then under My Computer, click on + sign in front of HKEY_CURRENT_USER to expand it. 6.Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, click on + sign in front of Software to expand it. 7.Under Software, search for the folder Apple or Apple Update Software. If found, right click on that folder and select Delete to delete those folders. Similarly search for both the folders Apple or Apple Update Software under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software and delete them if found. Close Registry Editor window. Please restart your computer. Please check your problem now. If you face any other problems, please reply me again. K M JHA Technical Support Executive (INDIA)

I followed all the above steps and still can not remove "Apple Update Software" program. Each time I try to remove the program I get a "fatal error" message and then it puts "Apple Update" back in my "Scheduled Tasks" list.I can not find any other Apple or Quicktime software when running "regedit".What else can I do?Thank you for your help.

I needed to restore my C: drive from a backup in order to get the old "incorrectly installed" version of iTunes working again. Do you have one?
