Hi, rosamund. You are correct, My Security Shield is a rogue anti-spyware program. Illustrated instructions for removal are available at BleepingComputer. SeeRemove My Security Shield (Uninstall Guide) . If you need additional assistance after following those instructions, assistance from trained malware removal analysts is available at the sites listed here: Malware Removal Help Sites .Corrine, Microsoft MVP (Consumer Security)My Blog: Security Garden This posting is my opinion and does not necessarily reflect the opinion or view of Microsoft, its employees, or other MVPs and is provided without warranty and confers no rights.

This is *not* an anti-virus, it itself is the virusthat you are infected with. Do *not* do what it asks you to do. Forhelp getting rid of it, tell us its name. And by the way, McAfee is one of the *poorest* anti-virus programsavailable, and the fact that you have nothing better installed is atleast part of the reason you got infected with this. For an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willingto pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one of thefollowing three: AviraAvastMicrosoft Security Essentials You also need anti-spyware software. I recommend that you download andinstall (both freeware) MalwareBytes AntiMalware *and*SuperAntiSpyware. -- Ken Blake Ken Blake (MS MVP)
