remote tools
We are migrating to Win7 from XP. With XP we used both the Remote Desktop
and Remote Assistance without any problems. Now with Win7 we have the
following issues (the initiating side is Windows 2008 R2);
When using Remote Desktop (RD) to Win7 clients connected via VPN, the
connection is made then both the RD session and VPN drop. It appears that
the network connection is reset just as the session starts. This happens
when the client is wireless or wired. The VPN client is Cisco's SSL Client
set to connect before logon and not to disconnect with logoff. I've tried it
both with the user logged on (where I'm prompted to log them off) and before
the user logs on. In XP this worked fine even with the VPN wired or
wireless.
I may just be a little confused. What I want is the same functionality we
had with Remote Assistance (RA) in XP (i.e. we could simply offer the remote
assistance and the user allowed it). It seems to much more complicated now
where they have to email me an invitation and tell me a passcode. But even
then, when I connect and try to do anything that requires elevated
permissions the remote screen goes black and the prompt for elevated
permissions is only shown on the local (meaning Me, the remote person, can't
enter the logon for the elevated permissions. Oddly enough this same thing
happened when I use GoToAssist.
