remote shutdown of Windows7 not working
Hi, I am trying to shutdown a Windows7 Professional machine remotely from a Windows XP Pro machine. The Windows 7 Pro machine is not a member of a domain. I use the commandline "shutdown /i" to bring up the UI. After entering all required information, I hit ok and the window closes, but nothing happens. If I do the same but with UAC completely disabled on the Windows7 machine, I can shut it down, but this is definitely not what I want. What do I have to do to be able to shutdown Windows 7 remotely without disabling UAC? Regards Jarod

Hi Jarod,On the windows XP, Open Administrative Tools \ “Local Security Settings”. Navigate to Security Settings \ Local Policies \ User Rights Assignment. Double-click “Force shutdown from a remote system” in the right pane. Click “Add User or Group”. and add the computer that runs the remote shutdown command. After that, try again.

Hi Jarod,Simply pressing Ctrl+Alt+End combine key in the Remote Desktop and you will see the shut down button there. Or, you can click Start orb on the Remote Desktop -> click "Windows Security", the same window will appear. :-)Hope it helps.Regards,Linda
