I have a windows 8 desktop with home edition and I upgraded it online to professional version. The "Select Users" button in remote desktop setting is disabled. I also found out that the "Remote Desktop Users" group is missing. Adding user groups in "Allow log on through Remote Desktop Services" in "Local Security Policy" does not fix the problem. Only the administrator is able to remote desktop to the computer.

It's nothing to do with hardware problem. It has to be a bug in Windows 8 as I saw this problem in other threads by people who upgrade to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 8. The "Remote Desktop Users" and "Backup Operators" groups are missing.

Hi all - with the July update rollup (KB2855336), there is a fix which resolves the issue with the Pro Pack upgrade scenario. More details on the symptoms in this specific scenario are also
documented in KB2850661.
