HiWhen you are doing it through another Network/Internet you have to forward the RDT listening port in the Router and open it in the software Firewall.Maybe this can Help,http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/northrup_03may16.mspxJack-MVP Windows Networking. WWW.EZLAN.NET

Hi JackTried that link but had no joy, I think the problem might be the router ip address, as I opened the port on it so I could access it remotely and when I typed in the ip address it could not find it. I am going to have a look on the linksys site.Sorry about the delay getting back to you,ThanksWillie

HiGoing through the Internet involves the external IP, the one that is given by the ISP to the Router's WAN port.In addition, port forwarding the RDT port toward the internal IP of the computer that need to be accessed. This two pages describe another type of Remote access, however you can apply the principles for RDT too.http://www.ezlan.net/myip.htmlhttp://www.ezlan.net/vnc.html Jack-MVP Windows Networking. Hi JackHave desided to stick with RDC (like a dog with a bone now)you might be able to help me with this questiondoes the fact i can use rdc on my lan mean that it is setup properly and the problem is either with my router, firewall or external ip addressRE: your last post i am trying to keep this as simple as posible as computers and me don't get on too well together. Saturday i upgraded the firmware on my router and lost all settings luckily i had them saved.thanks again for the helpWillie

Hi all I am still having problem with rdcI think the problem is my external ip address for my router. When I go to "whatmyip" it gives me 84.203.xxx.xxx, when I check my linksys router it tells me 192.168.xxx.xxx is the ip address seen by external users on the net. however neither of these ip addresses work over the net.hope someone can help

Hi84.203.xxx.xxx looks like the external IP.192.168.xxx.xxx is an Internal IP it does not work on the Internet. If the computer is ready for RDT and the port of RDP (3389) is forwarded through the Router to the IP of the computer, then by typing from the remote location84.203.xxx.xxxx you should get a connection.Provided that. The IP of the specific computer that the port is going to is always the same.Software Firewall does not block the port.If you use a none default application on the outside try 84.203.xxx.xxx:3389 Jack-MVP Windows Networking.
