remote assistance is not working between vistas but is between xp-vista
better described/updated in the 6.th post below: Hi, I experience problem to use rem.assist. between 2 vista computers, and there is no problem to connect or accept rem.***. to/from any of the above laptops to/from a 3-rdxp computer. i use rem.assist. in live messenger latest, and have all updates installed. with xp the connection is estabilished, no password required and working perfectly. with 2 vistas password is required on both, after confirming the attempt the requester doesn't get any errormessage, but to the requested after filling in the passworda message is shownthat the connection was cancelled by the requester, which of course was not. Thank you for your help.

Hi, You could create the Remote Assistance session by using the Windows Remote Assistance application directly: 1. Open Remote Assistance by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Maintenance, and then clicking Windows Remote Assistance. 2. Select Invite someone you trust to help you. 3. Follow the instructions. If the issue persists, please let me know the exact wording of the error message.

I have a similar problem with RA. Here's how it plays out: I was unable to establish a RA connection with a client using the application directly. (we're both using Vista) So I had them install windows messenger. They were unable to sign in. (Wrong user name or password) So I had them bring their computer in to me. I reviewed all settings and rebooted the machine and was then able to log into windows messenger. Now: I had both Vista machines connected to my wireless router. I tested windows messenger. Worked fine. I tested RA using windows messenger. Worked fine. I tested RA directly from the application. Worked fine. I tested the network printing (the original reason for the assistance request) Worked fine. Everything seemed to be working exactly the way they should be. The next day when my client took her machine and went back to Washington, she was unable to print using her network printer.. I had her use windows messenger to initiate a RA session. Although we were connected by messenger just fine we could not establish a RA connection. I would accept the request andafter I entered the password I would get an error saying that the requesting user has closed the request. Tried connecting using the RA application directly, same results. I'm at a loss as to why everything was working just the day before and nothing has changed on either computer except that instead of accessing the internet from the same router they were now using different routers...At present I'm guessing that her office router is blocking the connection somehow. Port forwardingor some other settingmaybe?Anybody have ideas? Since we could'nt use RA I tried to troubleshoot her network printer problem using the messenger chat session. What I discovered was that her machine was not seeing anything on the office network. Her office has a networked (shared) printer and the other computer is Xp. I'm pretty sure I can resolve the network stuff once I can get RA to work like it was when I had her machine here. I'm pretty sure the problem is not her computer since RA and network was working fine the day before. That leaves me with a possible router problem (for RA) and possible router and network config with the other office machines (for the network problem). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hello, I cannotconnect from a vista (home premium) to a vista using rem.assist.(RA) between 2laptops(dell1525-vaio fw), while there is no problem to connect to or accept RAfrom any of the same above laptops to/from a 3-rdWINxp procomputer at the same time. I use RA in live messenger latest, and have all updates installed on all of them. The connection is not working either directly from the RA software-without live messenger locallyon a home network connected to the same dsl-router neither now 1500km away. Tested on a home network...the xp/vista or vista/xp worked fine but not the vista/vista. Now I'm awway and desperately need to help to the home users using RA. With xp/vista or vista/xpthe connection is estabilished, no password required and working perfectly without any further complications/troubles. With 2 vistas password is required on both, after confirming the attempt the requester doesn't get any errormessage(is waiting for anything to happenendlessly), but to the requested after filling in the passworda message is shownthat the connection was cancelled by the requester, which of course was not. Image link of the error message follows here. Iunderlined the main visible differences. There must be some security setting somewhere in vista accepting vista RA or the handling of the RA connection. Where is it? or what else is it? why is there a password needed when no passw is with xp? Do usershave to have administrator privileges? I think I'm quite an experienced user using win. since win3.1 and even foundstraightforward instructions here: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/0aaee49e-0e3f-47c2-b0a8-ee17f0d0e8341033.mspx Please don't close this thread if its not solved like it happened before. (I came back later because there was no answer for 2 days and lost hope anybody helps) I would't like to install any other sw if not necessary. Thank you for your help somuch.

I've got eset internet security installed on both pc. after turning it off on the side of help requester the RA works fine. I added open ports tcp/udp 3389 to the eset i.s. firewall rules but still did not work. Only turning off the fw helped. it's still not working on the vaio side because the dsl router has its fw on and it's not enough to turn off the eset's fw. after the router is sorted, everything should be ok. I added this info to somebody to help. So the reason of malfunction is probably the unopened port/fw.
