Just to confirm, formatting will completely wipe your hard-drive. You can format your hard-drive using fdisk, however as an alternative (possibility) you might be able to do a custom installion (Win 7) to wipe and install Win 7.I am able to use one hard drive and have 3 partitions. On 1 partition I have XP, on another I have Win 7 and on the other I have data files. Because I still want to have access to my main XP OS. But use Win on other partition for testing. To partition hard-drives without losing any data use Gparted Live.Craig

Is it your 'main' drive you want to reformat or a second hard drive? If it is a second hard drive installed in your system you can use Windows 7's Disk managment tools to format the partition (Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Managment>Disk Management). If it is your main drive then you can delete the partition, create a new partition and then install Windows 7 by using the Windows 7 DVD. Once you have doen that you can performa a clean install (custom install) of Windows 7.The link below gives instruction on installing Windows Vista (Windows 7 is the same) http://www.winuser.co.uk/windows_vista_faq/32_install_windows_vista.htmlPay particular attention to the screenshot above step 14. You will see from the screenshot that there is an option called 'drive options' advanced. Click on this to be able to delete, create a new partition.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Jeniece,Forget the Windows XP disc. Put your Windows 7 DVD into your DVD-ROM and then restart your PC. When the 'install' window appears click the 'install button to start the installation of Windows 7. Go through the installation wizard and select the 'Custom (Advanced)' install option. On the next screen you should see your current partition. At this point click on the 'Drive Options (Advanced)' link and then select to Delete the partition. Once deleted you can then 'Create' a new partition and format. Once that is done Windows 7 will carry on installing.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;
