rasdial error 623, cannot find phonebook entry??
Hello I wish to use rasdial to start a vpn so I can do this and some other tasks from a vbs script, but rasdial does not seem to want to work. My vpn connection is saved in: C:\Windows\System32\ras\SEEVPN.pbk I start a command prompt and type the following: rasdial SEEVPN username password where these are ofcourse replaced by the correct username and password. I then receive the following message: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Remote Access error 623 - The system could not find the phone book entry for thi s connection. For more help on this error: Type 'hh netcfg.chm' In help, click Troubleshooting, then Error Messages, then 623 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- I have also tried the following commands with the same result: rasdial SEEVPN.pbk username password rasdial SEEVPN username password /phonebook:C:\Windows\System32\ras\SEEVPN.pbk rasdial SEEVPN username password /phonebook:"C:\Windows\System32\ras\SEEVPN.pbk" I have also tried all of the above from after changing directory to C:\Windows\System32\ras. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? I have managed to get this to work on previously on a Vista machine with no problems. Manually double-clicking on the .pbk file launches the vnp connection fine. I'm using Windows 7 professional 64-bit. Thanks!

Hi, About rasdial error 623, you can try this KB: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/170134 If the issue persists, please try to login with Clean Boot, temporally disable firewall to see if the same issue occurs. Hope that helps. Regards, Leo HuangPlease remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hello, thanks for replying, the KB article you linked "RASDIAL Reports Error 623 When Dial-up Entry Name Contains Spaces" does not help, as there are no spaces in the entry name. I'm also not sure how your other suggestions will help as rasdial does not even attempt to dial the connection, as it cannot find the phonebook entry? I'll give them a go all the same.

I take back my last reply, there was in fact a space in the entry name in the phonebook, even though it was not in the file name. I simply edited the .pbk file in notepad to remove the space in the entry name to fix this, in case anyone else wants to know how I did it. Thanks again
