problems printing to a local printer thru my windows 7 64bit computer when connected to my network computer thru a vpn running 32bit
I have a toshiba laptop running windows 7 64 bit. I have configured the computer to connect to the terminal server (running 32bit) in my office thru the vpn.The problem i am not able to see my local printers when connected remotely. I have the remote connection desktop configured to see all local printers and drives but am still not able to see the printers. I am able to see the local drives when i am on remotely (so i can save files locally).Do i need to load drivers on the remote connection? my old laptop had windows xp and i never had to do anything. The printers were found when i went into select a printer.ThanksPeter

You'd better the upgrade the driver for the printers that are shared on your local network. Please install Windows 7 compatible drivers on the Windows 7 laptop. Then please follow the steps below in Windows 7 to re-create the ports for the shared printers. 1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.2. Click Add a Printer. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port. 5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format. \\<IP address of the host computer>\<The Share Name of the printer> Then click Next. 6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation. During installing, choose the correct driver in the driver list. Arthur Xie - MSFT
