problems file sharing between computers
I have been having trouble setting up a network between my windows xp computer and my windows vista computer. I use a Netgear rp614 router and have ethernet cables connecting the 2 computers to the router. The internet works fine on both computers but I cant figure out how to get file sharing to work. I have tried turning off my firewalls and everything. Previously, I had file sharing set up between my xp computer and a windows 98 computer, but now I cant get it to work with windows vista. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I feel your pain. I can see my other 3 computers all with xp and use the shared files on the vista pc. However I cant see the vista files or even browse the computer from the xp computers. I even went as far as setting up a useraccount on the "vista" pc, and um yea that didn't work. ALLOW OR DENY

I have fixed my issues Here is what I stumbled on. 1st I added a password to my vista user account. Then and not sure this helped (it works so I'm not going to change it) I shut off the USER ACCOUNT CONTROL. Now this is what I saw on the xp computers. When I went to "my network places" the first time I saw just the xp shared folders. I then clicked the "view work group computers" WOWthere was the vista computer. I double clicked that and a login screen popped up. I entered in the vista computer name and the newly created password, and boom your in. Now when I went back to the "my network places" the xp and vista files showed up. I am not an IT guy but will use the favorite phrase of the one from work "REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM". You may need to restart your xp machine to get this to work. Most important is I did not have to mess with any firewall settings. IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU PASS IT ALONG you could save someone else from chucking their vista machine out the window. GOOD LUCK
