problem with themes on windows 7
hi all. i have a serious problem on deleting a theme in windows 7..i am using windows 7 ultimate..i tried to install a new theme today..after that i wanted to delete it because i didn't like it so much..tried to delete it from the personalization window but it didn't work..then i read about system restore..i started and completed this process..but when my PC restarted..a system error appeared saying that it couldn't start explorer.exe because a file UxTheme.dll was missing..and then it appeared nothing but my mouse pointer..i tried to run in safe mode but it was the same.. if anyone could help me, i would appreciate it so much..

Try booting to Safe Mode With Command Prompt. Once loaded, type sfc /scannow and let the system scan and repair any files that are missing. If this was helpful, please vote by clicking the green triangle. If it solves the issue, click Propose as Answer. Thanks!

Glauk - You might also want to try selecting another theme before trying to delete the one you don't like. Windows doesn't like it when you delete files that are considered "in use."

Try ShellExView. Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information. Run ShellExView, in the pane sort the entries with manufacturers. Then you will be able to easily find the UxTheme.dll or related add-ons. Since you cannot open Windows Explorer, after downloading, remember the location the file saved. Then you may try to open the file via IE or command prompt window. If the above suggestion cannot be performed, try System Restore. You can also boot into Win RE and try System Restore. After restoring, use ShellExView to disable all add-ons from that theme and then remove the theme. Additionally, all the themes are saved in: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Themes You may open the folder and delete directly.Arthur Xie - MSFT
