problem with power and battery settings on laptop
I am using a laptop (windows 7 64bit) with an administrator account. The Battery Icon does not show when the battery in plugged in, but when I check the taskbar notification area, the power says 100%. So I try to show the battery icon by going to "Turn system icons on or off" page in the "control panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons\System Icons". The Power Behavior button is "Off" and cannot be changed (greyed out). How do I change the Power Behavior button to be "On", I am already using the admin account. Also I am having problems with the laptop not prompting for a password when you close the laptop lid. Under "Power Options" in Control Panel, there is a link "Require a password on wakeup". I click on it and it shows a page with the section "Password protection on wakeup" that has "require a password (recommended)" already selected. If it is selected why isn't the password prompting when I close and open the laptop lid?

Hi, Regarding the Require a password on wakeup issue. I suspect that the laptop does not go to sleep mode. This function depends on the manufacturer. The action of closing the lid of the laptop may not make the laptop go to sleep, just turn off the display screen. So please kindly check that. Regarding the power icon did not appear at Notification Area, you may refer to the following link. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fix-for-when-clock-volume-power-or-network-icons-are-missing-and-grayed-out-in-windows-vista/ Also, the battery driver has not been installed properly can cause this issue as well, so try to update the driver to latest version for a test.
