problem RDP'ing from xp xp3 machine to my windows 7 workstation - "client could not connect. you are already connected to the console of this computer. a new console session cannot be established"
receive this error when trying to connect with or without the '/admin' switch: mstsc /v:myComputer /admin OR mstsc /v:myComputer "client could not connect. you are already connected to the console of this computer. a new console session cannot be established" connecting from xp sp3 (32bit) to windows 7 professional (64bit). Source machine is accessing destination machine through VPN. Not sure whats up? I used to be able to RDP from xp to my xp workstation and just pick up the console session I left at work? Is there a problem here or did they change this feature in win 7?

turns out both my laptop and desktop I was trying to connect to have the same name! lol. So when I was trying to connect by name it was resolving to my local IP and I was actually trying to connect to myself, so that error makes perfect sense. however my problem is not over yet, now when I try to connect by IP (the correct one), I get the error indicating there is no connectivity to the remote machine. I can ping the machine... it is listening on 3389. The Remote settings are set to "allow connections from computers running any version...". So now my specific question is, is there any other settings that my be disallowing the RDP connection on my desktop? Any specific domain GPO that I may be picking up and can check for? AFAIK, everything is set right on my desktop, so I just want to verify this is not an issue on my machine so I don't waste time troubleshooting there...
