problem: csrss.exe running at high cpu on one xp user profile
Hi,i read and heard about problems with csrss.exe running at 100% cpu and now i experience something similar. Its a dual core so its only up to 50% cpu usage here for me. When i start win xp (sp3) and log on then already it takes a couple of minutes for the logon to complete. Then when i start some programs they yank up the csrss.exe cpu usage. Some manage to start and the cpu usage goes down again after a couple minutes. Some do not recover and if i dont kill them the csrss high cpu usage will remain. Then with some programs there is no problem at all.Now when i log on with a different user there is no problem and some of the same programs that are installed for all users on this machine will start even if they hang for that first user.Of course there seems to be an clear workaround for the problem. Delete the first user and install everything anew that was not installed for all users on the machine, but that cant be the best way to proceed here. Since the problem is only appearent for that one user, it seems to me that this must be solvable. The csrss.exe is the same for both of them (in winxp/system32) so what could generate the high cpu use for one user?I did run antivirus, maleware detection and the likes and to the best of my knowledge the machine is clean.please helpChris2 people need an answerI do too

Try using a clean boot technique to try to identify which software may be running for the user with the problem, that is contributing to the behavior. Also check the behavior insafe mode. In my experience, in this type of issue csrss is reacting to something else that's going on.Also consider a scan with the free version of MalwareBytes AntiMalware.

Yea I have the same problem at my job. This one specific user has it when we launch one of our company's in-house software (we'll call it Invent). Csrss.exe eats up 50% of the CPU, locks up the Invent, and continues to eat up CPU until I kill Invent. I noticed that when I close IE and Outlook, Invent opens fine. After it's opened, I'll open up Outlook and IE, then in about 30 minutes or so csrss.exe starts eating up the CPU again.I logged in myself and it launched just fine with IE and Outlook open, so I figured it was just something with her profile. I renamed her profile and had her log in to create a new profile. Everything seemed good to go until the next day when the issue was back.I did a Process Explorer on csrss.exe to see what thread the csrss.exe was using and it was: CSRSRV.dll!CsrValidateMessageString+0x17. Of course when I pause the thread I get a BSOD, so that is a NO GO.I like ChrisSomething believe there has to be a way to see why csrss.exe is taxing the system so hard when I launch Invent. I know Process Monitor is the way to go, but every time this issue happens this lady resets her computer...

Maybe the user profile is corrupt. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555021.
