preformance and maintenance ,ccleaner
I just got ccleaner and ran advanced scan on hot fix uninstaller it had 233,175kb 945 files. I'm not sure if I should clean these files or not. Would they be left over from uninstalling programs, or are they the comand files for the uninstaller
it's-self.1 person got this answerI do too

They are the files that are required for uninstalling Windows Updates - if
you never intend to uninstall any updates, you can delete the files (but
never is a long time!).
DO NOT use the Registry cleaner in CCleaner for anything other than
advisories! DO NOT allow it to autoclean (read 'autotrash') your registry.

All this computer tech. and terms are new to me. I wanted to make sure so I don't mess up my computer any worse than it all ready is. I am a having problem with a lot of fragemented files and defrager and clener that came with windows is not taking
care of it. I only have 12 percent free space and have deleted what I know not to be essential to opperation, but I'm sure there is more that is unnessary. I have already messed up and deleted a driver in the past, boy that was a nightmare to fix, so
I am very cautious now. LOL

You say that you only have 12% free space on your hard drive?
That's small enough to stop Windows Defrag from working (There is a hack to
get around it - but it's not too safe)
When you say that Windows Cleaner isn't enough - what are you getting it to
do?
How big is your hard drive anyhow?
As far as freeing up space on your hard drive is concerned first thing is to
limit the size of the Temporary Internet Files folder - which can get
ludicrously large! Go to Internet Options (or Internet Properties), and
depending on which version of Internet Explorer you have, You'll see options
for the Browsing history, or Temporary Internet Files - click on the
Settings button You'll now see a setting for 'Disk space to use', which
should be around 40-50MB. If it's set to more than that, then set it to
40MB, click OK, and OK again (it may take a while it the folder has a lot of
data in it).
The You can use the Windows Disk Cleanup tool - the only SAFE settings are
the ones which won't delete potentially useful files, and unfortunately, a
couple of the settings there can do this, so be careful! You can safely set
the system to delete the following:-
Temporary Internet Files
Offline Webpages
Recycle Bin
Thumbnails
Temporary Files
I wouldn't let Windows delete anything else unsupervised!
Then you have a bit of manual housekeeping
Open Windows Explorer
Go to The Windows folder, and then the Temp folder
Delete any file or folder there that's more than 7 days old.
Go to Add and Remove Programs
Look in there for Items labelled 'Java Runtime' or similar (post back with a
list if you're unsure), and delete ALL except the one with the highest
version number.
That should clear your system safely of anything up to 2 GB. You then have
to make a decision as to what programs you don't need any more, and what
data you should back up to CD/DVD before removing it from the HD.
