phone call saying they were from Microsoft Windows
I received a phone call today from a man that said he was from Microsoft Windows, & that Microsoft had been receiving notices for several weeks that " something" was wrong with my computer. Offline he had me do a system check, then said my computer was corrupted, then put on his floor supervisor who had me get online and do some more system checks and told me that I was corrupted and it would cost $150-$350 to fix. I hung up thinking this might be a scam. My question is do you have someone who makes these type phone calls, or was it a scam? If it is corrupted how do I fix it. Thanks for your help lindondesormeaux@yahoo.com

I just received this same phone call today. He tried really hard to get me to check my computer. Saying that I would be doing the checking not him. I told him that I didn't know him and wasn't about to open my computer up to anyone. I said he was crazy to think that I would do this. My first thought was that they would install something to track my key strokes or install a virus on my system. I've never had a phone call from Microsoft. When I asked if he was with Microsoft, he said he was with Windows. I laughed and said good bye.

I just received a call today with exactly the same scenario. I saw the error reports in the event viewer. When they had me make an entry to "iexplore gtechsupports.net," however, it opened IE so I immediately hung up. Smelled like a scam, and I'm glad to have the verification that it was a scam from this forum.
