partition loss when adding a new partition to hdd
Under XP SP3, I connected a backup hdd (1,5TB) where there was a logical partition only, split in two units of 500GB each. They were regularly mounted and functioning, with their letter assigned (E and F). I decided to add and create a partition of last 500GB. So in disk management I right clicked the empty space and following the wizard I accepted defaults (just set 64KB as block size) and quick format. Put label and accepted to assign letter G.I came up very shortly with a primary partition (outside the logical one, green-boxed) with its letter G. HOWEVER, the second partition disappeared, it became a green filled rectangle saying it is free space to allocate. So I am left with E and G. I connected the disk to another pc and still the same.Is there any solution to this (u imagine how I am feeling...) or did anybody experienced something like this? How to recover data now? I believe and hope it is a pt corruption, but how can this happen??Sorry to be long, I am very disturbed with xp and its unexpected behavior. Thank you for reading and possibly advice, cheers ricardo 1 person needs an answerI do too

TestDisk might be able to recover the logical drive inside the extended partition.http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDiskJohn
