ntoskrnl.exe 100% disk usage windows 8.1

hi

my computer has been super slow lately, after searching and scaning for virus i found out that ntoskrnl was causing it, sometimes also the google chrome browser.
i already downloaded the windows perfomance toolkit, i scanned for 60s with the default settings.

Several things are combining to make the HD thrash.  First you should disable/remove readyboost (prefetch).  Second Bitlocker.  I would disable (at least to test).  Third and finally Chrome.  It is causing excessive writes to the page file.  I would remove it and test to see if the problem still exists.  You can always re-install any or all of the above when you find which it is.

I would also run a system file check to find the state of the OS

Please run a system file check (SFC) & DISM (if necessary) if you are on win 8 or higher

Hi,

I have researched the etl log which you send to Onedrive. I find there are many process related to browser that read low or very low.

Based on my research, ntoskrnl.exe is responsible for various system services such as hardware virtualization, process and memory management, thus making it a fundamental part of the system. It contains the cache manager, the executive, the kernel, the security reference monitor, the memory manager, and the scheduler. Therefore, the process itself is not virus, but we cannot exclude the reason that the virus infect the process. I suggest you use SFC to repair the system files to troubleshoot the issue.

Due to I noticed the process related to browser, you would better disable all the add-ons in browser.

Wish you will troubleshoot the issue smoothly.

Best Regards

Simon
