not able to decrypt a bitlocker encrypted harddisk
harddisk running on windows vista, windows crash with error message "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:....File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe" check the disk with no physical bad sector, possible due to some system corrupted, try to decrypt the disk. run repair-bde F: -NOV -rp ******-******-******-******-******-******-******-****** It goes to decrypt and takes 2 hours and finish with some log messages -00000039 -00000031 -00000039 -00000031 ... but when checking the disk sectors, it remains exactly the same as original, no decryption being done. try repair-bde F: D:........ after 2 hours, D: is empty. can anyone tell me what's wrong thanks

repair-bde f: g: -rp -f -lf c:\log.txt where g is the portable disk whereyou want the data and G drive should atlaeast be equal to F drive. After repair-bde is completed, run chkdsk /r on G drive, then try to access your data. Also since you know the 48 digit recovery password, can you boot into WinRE and try to unlock the drive using >manage-bde.wsf -unlock c: -rp "xxx-xxx-xxx" command?Manoj Sehgal

Did you try to use Repair option from Startup Repair Option. You can boot using Vista DVD and then try repair. If the disk is locked by bitlocker it will ask you the 48 digit recovery password and then let it complete the repair. let me know how it goes. Manoj Sehgal

Run vista dvd and repair with error "Windows cannot repair this computer automatically" error detail CorruptbootconfigData try to force decrypt with repair-bde -f, no success, seems repair-bde didn't decrypt anything after few hours running, the disk is still in original condition, can still boot up and show Windows error message: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:....File: \Windows\system32\winload.exe" why repair-bde can't decrypt the disk after few hours running thanks

your bcdstore is corrupted. Try bootrec /RebuildBcd See this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 Also makes sure the partitions are correct using diskpart command. Boot using vista dvd into winRE and then go to command prompt. >diskpart diskpart>list vol Make sure C Drive is C drive and not D. If it is some other drive letter then you can use the drive letter when you follow the KB article. Fix the bcd issue and then see if you can boot into windows. I hope this helps. Manoj Sehgal

yes, you can boot using WinPE and then unlock the drive to access the data. use the 48 digit recovery password to unlock the volume. You can also use manage-bde and repair-bde commands in WinPE. >manage-bde -unlock C: -rp xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxx where C is the drive letter and xxx-xxx-xxxx-xxxx is the 48 digit recovery password.Manoj Sehgal

this is the error message when I type in -unlock, possible due to Microsoft program bugs, anyway, I can't decrypt it by using repair-bde, run few hours with nothing changes to the harddisk. any suggestion

already follow this article to decrypt the disk few times, use repair-bde D: G: -RecoveryPassword ****** the password should be correct as it start to run and record some log file, after 3-4 hours, it completed but when do the full disk scanning and found the disk was still being encrypted, seems nothing was done when compare with the image mirror. even try -nov, -f two times

Hi, Does the outputVolume have enough space to store the decrypted files. Please also check this. If it still does not work, you may try to add -NoOutputVolume option. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
